After this encounter, I wouldn't know how to explain it because it was traumatic and strange at the same time. After all, I never imagined myself coming face to face with a corpse and a kind Nazi, if I can call him that.
《You saw them! What bastards! They come here from Germany and claim to be the leaders of the world! I hate them all, when I grow up I want to join the army and exterminate them all, one by one, for every person they took out and for my friend Andrea, who they took away with his family without his return just because he was Jewish! They are heartless monsters! 》
He said all of a sudden, Michael blurting out all the hatred he held inside for the two soldiers in black uniforms.
《I understand your resentment, but we are children, we are small. As the lord said, we need to stay away from adult problems.》
I explain and then continue talking to him in a calm tone to make my point.
《After all, the gentleman was kind to us even though we were disturbing his work, if we can call it that. But he treated us well, and even though he explicitly advised us not to be resold in such places, he still didn't hesitate to take care of us. It's not all monsters that scare you.》
I tell him directly and his face changes to one of surprise at my words, or at least I hope I made him understand what I mean.
《All right, I understand what you mean, but still I'm not ready to say they're all good to those Germans, and leave Andrea unvindicated.》
Said Michele as he started to run away, leaving me alone in the alley.
I can't hear anything, the joy of the market seems far away, like my grandparents' house and Michele too, now.
A noise behind me wakes me up, causing me to petrify on the spot.
《Hey, child. Please do you have a piece of bread for a poor starving old lady? 》
And a hand rests on my shoulder, sending an icy shiver down my entire body.
I don't have the strength to move, not even a millimetre, I just feel cold.
《Your little friend has abandoned you here, O poor little one.》
The voice behind my back speaks again.
《You've been fighting, poor soul, now you're all alone. Helpless, if someone ill-intentioned approached you, you would be in great danger.》
I can't even turn my gaze to see her face.
Bam! A shot fills the alleyway and I feel my heart stop, and my legs give out so I fall to the ground on the icy stone.
After a few seconds I hear another and another.
Until the shooting stops, after that instant that lasted for an eternity, then someone walks past me and kneels down in front of me, offering me a hand to get up.
At first I can't even lift my head, I can't think that the one who is here in front of me rushed to help me willing to kill someone, becoming a murderer.
《Are you okay? 》
I hear the same voice as the German from before, I think his name was Alex, but I'm not completely sure.
《It's all over, the old lady left, you're safe now.》
She calmly explains while handing me a handkerchief, she has already realised that I'm holding back tears, from the moment I saw the child's corpse coming out of the house.
《Thank you...》
I reply to him still trembling.
《Take it easy, come on.》
He says holding out his arms for me to stand up.
《Do you remember where you live? 》
I nod my head at him.
《Well I escorted you all the way there, can you walk? 》
》I tried to stand upright by clinging tightly to his arms, but my legs contradicted my brain's will to stand with my legs.♡•○•♡
