I look away from the window, and focus on the two doors, both of which are locked, so it is impossible for me to enter either of them.
I see Grandma Maria coming up the stairs and she sees me there in the middle of the hallway and smiles affectionately at me, then hands me a key, I deduce the one to my room, I nod a smile as a thank you, non-verbal.
Then she comes down the stairs, I think heading for the kitchen, by now it's already lunchtime so it won't be long before we eat, and that means I'll be at the table with everyone, it'll be too awkward, also because I don't understand Italian and so I need Uncle Carlo's help with translations and conversations.
I'd just like to be alone in my room, sorting out my things, and I'd also like to explore the library and also Mum's room... although I think it's untouched since Mum died... and I think, too, that I'm forbidden access.
Now I'm alone, and I can't stand out here all the time looking at who knows what, and it's time to enter the room.
I put the key in the lock and turn it once, immediately I hear a clak and the door is open, I turn the brass handle and the door opens for good.
The room is bigger than my previous one in Poland, it is very cosy and warm, despite being in the attic.
The bed is leaning against the wall to the left of the window, on the other side is a medium-large wardrobe, where I will put my clothes. Under one of the two windows, the one in front of the bed, there is an oak desk with its chair. Next to the door is a small brick fireplace, and not far away a small chest, with wood in it, I think.
I look out the window next to the bed and see that in addition to the empty space for a view, there is also a small flat area on the roof, big enough for an average man to lie down, read and drink and eat. Perfect for when I want to be completely alone!
Back in the nursery, attached to a ceiling beam is a simple, but sturdy-looking birch wood swing... I think... but it could be, since it's a white wood, but it's not covered with paint, it has a natural colour.
It's perfect for me, but it lacks shelves or some shelves for some books, as well as books for school.
I'll ask Uncle Carlo for them later, he'll be able to tell me what to do. But now I unpack my suitcases, although I don't know who packed them for me since I was with Jakob in the tree house. But first I have to wait for Uncle Carlo to bring my luggage up.
Tock Tock.
I think it's Uncle Carlo with my luggage, I'll go open the door for him right away.
《Yes? Hello uncle, it's my luggage, right?》
I ask him, although I already know the answer he'll give me in not even 10 seconds.
《Yes, they're yours. There's lunch in half an hour, come down, okay... I'll introduce you to everyone in the family, for your cousins, you'll have to wait until the afternoon, because they're at school. Well, I'll leave you to your work now.》
Having said that, she leaves the room, closing the door behind her, leaving me alone.
