It seems like the day we met, except that it is now almost night and the road is longer than last time.
Come to think of it, it's already been almost 4 days since our 'unpleasant' meeting.
《Alex, the family you were taking away, was it the only one or have you already taken others away? 》
I ask him out of sheer curiosity, his face deforms into one of a mixture between fear and sadness.
《No, there are already five families we've sent away, but no problem, as long as they don't object nothing will happen to any of the family members, not like the child you saw. It was Jakob, my comrade that day, who shot him and spat in his face, and that's not a nice thing to do to a corporal.》
He explains, so Jakob is his superior and he had to do it to enforce their authority.
《I understand but I don't blame you, after all it was an order or you'd get killed, right?》
I answer him and from his face I notice a shocked expression from my answer, I assume.
《Thanks, little one》
He says, mussing up my hair with one hand for the third time in a single day, as we're about to arrive towards the beginning of the way to Grandma's house, which we immediately notice three policemen see outside the front door, but they're not like Alex, they're the guards from San Marino, they must have called them to look for me.
《Linda!!! For heaven's sake!!! Where have you been all this time!!》
Granny exclaims as soon as she can see me under the streetlight.
《About these bastards again! Linda! I told you never to see them again! 》
Exclaims Uncle Carlo who was talking to the cops until a few minutes before Grandma saw me.
《But uncle, they're not as bad as you imagine, he's kind to me, he's a friend! 》
《A FRIEND!!》
Uncle Charles blurts out, beside himself.
《A NAZI IS NEITHER KIND NOR CAN HE BE YOUR FRIEND!!! 《A NAZI CAN'T BE YOUR FRIEND!!!》
Uncle Carlo angrily approaches, I see him raise his arm with the intent to slap me, I instinctively close my eyes, but I don't feel the slap.
I open my eyes and see that Alex has stepped in front of me taking the slap instead of me.
This leaves both my uncle and everyone present shocked.
Instinctively I embrace Alex, we are communicating in a silent language, he is understanding that I am thanking him, hugging him.
I feel him return the contact, he's as if protecting me from his uncle, which leaves even the cops who already couldn't do anything to the Nazis but more importantly don't even have a problem with him.
《Leave my niece alone! You monster! Go back to the hell you came from! 》
Uncle spits on Alex... he doesn't deserve it he's just doing a favour and has already saved my life once. He can't be a bit grateful to him!
《Well, gentlemen, let's calm down and discuss this civilly》.
A policeman arrives to calm down my uncle, who almost had the intention of jumping on Alex's neck and strangling him.
《Carlo! Calm down dear!》
Grandma arrives to try to calm her son down, but in vain, since his expression doesn't change one bit....
He's really angry, I think he's afraid that a German might take someone away from his family, again, like what happened with my mum....
《Uncle, I love you, but you can't avoid making friends with me... if not, you're keeping me in a cage...》
I tell him and Uncle's face calms down and indeed becomes almost melancholic.
Instead, Alex, he continues to hold me tightly so that I don't let Uncle catch me, who I believe still has the will to slap me again.
《I can't lose someone else because of you Germans! You've already taken my sister away from me, and now you want to take my niece away too! Don't let you do it! 》
And having said that he manages to grab my arm and pull me in his direction.
《I've only found her a few months ago, I won't let you take her away from me, or if you want to, you'll have to go over my dead body! 》
Uncle affirms, which makes Alex curious, and the policemen who were meanwhile controlling the situation from the scene.
《Mr. Gasperoni, I won't allow you to disrespect a little girl like that, who has done nothing but try to adapt to the life you brought her to, from Poland to Switzerland and afterwards here to San Marino, shocking behaviour for an uncle. Or is it? After all, her mother gave her life consensually, and you hid the truth from her for years! 》
Saying that, the whole family's faces turn pale, almost cadaverous, and Uncle begins to break into a cold sweat. And I see Grandma, who starts sending the policemen away, as if the topic couldn't be shared.
Will they talk to me about my father?
《Please have a seat, it's better to talk about it in a more private place where prying eyes and ears can't meddle in the talk.》
Says Aunt Benedetta, to Alex and the rest of the family.
《I'll go and keep the boys at bay, you, Linda can participate after all it's about you...》
And having said that she enters, almost running, towards the upstairs while we all enter the living room.
Grandma makes Alex sit on the armchair closest to the fireplace while I'm made to sit on the opposite side.♡•○•♡
