Mistakes
Laurel's POV
The final bell has rang and I'm walking down the hall to Steph's office. I make it to the office and open the door, realizing she's not in there. Taking a seat on the couch I pull out my tablet and check my homework app for assignments due tomorrow.
Minutes later Steph rushes into the office.
"Hey." She says, hurrying over to her desk.
"Hi." I say, getting up from the couch, "Are you ready?"
Steph looks at me, guilt coloring her eyes.
"I'm really sorry. I can't leave. I have a few conferences set up and I don't know how long it's going to take. Can you get a ride with a friend?" Steph explains, pulling manilla folders from the file cabinet in the corner of the room.
"Yea, sure." I say, putting my tablet back in my bookbag and slinging it over my shoulder.
"I'll see you at home." Steph says, kissing me on the cheek before disappearing from the room with an armful of folders.
I sigh, pulling my phone from my pocket. Pulling up my messages I text all of the girls, asking about their whereabouts. To my misfortune every single one of them are at home or out doing something. Instead of continuing any of the conversations I walk out of the office and out to the parking lot. With nothing else better to do I sit on the bench under the giant oak tree in front of the main office.
"Hey there." A voice says from behind me.
I turn around quickly, hurting my neck a little. Much to my surprise Julia is standing behind me, her ocean eyes twinkling in the sun light. Trying to maintain a poker face I look at her then face forward again. I hear her laugh, the sound smooth and seductive. Seconds later she's taking a seat next to me on the bench.
"I do believe I just spoke to you." She says, a slight smile on her face.
I look at her, avoiding her eyes, and face forward again. "I heard you."
"And?"
For some reason, this sudden need to be difficult, rises up over the need to submit.
"I didn't answer."
"Why is that?" She asks calmly.
I'm quite surprised she hasnt tried to assert her authority over me yet. Feeling guilty and in some not-so-deep-down part of me wanting to endulge in all the attention she's giving me, I award her with a direct answer.
"My mom has some conferences she has to be at and she can't go home right now."
"So are you going to wait for her?"
"I don't really think I have a choice." I say turning my body to face hers.
When I turn to face her I make the hugest mistake I could've possibly made. I look into her eyes, and I completely lose myself. Every train of thought. Every conscious and subconscious bodily function.
"I could take you home if you'd like." Julia offers.
I take in her words mentally I think, but for some reason I don't answer and its not because I don't want to. There's nothing I want more than to engage in conversation with this stunning angel sitting in front of me. I just can't get my mouth to work. Some time must past because Julia starts to look at me in a strange way as if she's waiting for something. Oh crap! I never answered her!
