Laurel's POV

Separation anxiety. That's what it is. I miss Julia so much...even my body misses her.

"I miss her." I mumble under my breath.

"Who?" Melony asks, glancing at me out of the corner of her eye.

I look at her as if she has an extra eyeball on her face.

"Who else?"

"Ohhhh. Julia." Melony whispers in realization.

"Yeah." I say, rolling my eyes.

"So tell her to come see you." Melony suggests.

"I can't. It's too big of a risk."

"I'm sure I could distract your parents long enough for you and your lover to have a moment together." Melony smiles.

"She is not my lover." I laugh.

"Well what is she then?"

"I don't know, but 'lover' just sounds so simple. She's so much more than just a lover." I explain.

I can feel Melony's eyes boring into the side of my head, since I never turned to face her since our conversation had begun.

"What?" I ask.

"My little baby's all grown up and in love." Melony teases, pinching my cheeks.

"Stop that." I shriek, fighting a smile as I swat at her hands.

"Just call her or text her at least."

"It's during school hours." I say.

"So."

"So, she does work for a living."

"I guarantee you if you call her she'll answer."

"I don't know." I say, skeptically.

"There's no harm in trying. I bet she's thinking about you right now anyway."

Pondering it all, I grab my phone from my roll over table next to the hospital bed.

"Just do it. You know you want to." Melony says.

I hesitate, tapping my phone case with my soft pink nails.

"Okay, fine." I give in.

I dial Julia's number and put it on speaker.

"Hello." she answers quickly, not even giving the phone a chance to ring.

"Hi babe." I say.

"Where are you?"

"I'm at the hospital."

"The hospital? Why?" she asks, the panic evident in her voice.

"I got into an accident while I was jogging last night." I admit, embarrassingly.

"Are you okay? Do you need me to come see you? Do you need anything?" she asks.

"No, no. I'm fine. Besides you're at work, you can't just walk out." I tell her. "Speaking of work, don't you have a class you should be teaching right now?"

The silence on the other end of the phone is deafening until she decides to answer.

"I made today a study hall. I haven't been able to concentrate on life, since you didn't show last night, let alone teaching a lesson."
