I Miss You
Julia's POV
I should call her. I think to myself as I'm walking towards my car. I just spoke to Laurel earlier this but it feels like forever. Just do it, I encourage myself. It can't hurt to just call her.
I get into my car and pull my cellphone out of my pocket. I dial her number and put the phone up to my ear. She answers on the first ring.
"Hi!" she says.
"Hey," I sigh in relief.
"Wait, what's wrong?" she asks, her tone changing drastically.
"Nothing." I say, turning on my car.
"You're lying." she says gently.
I don't answer. Instead I just listen to her steady breathing through the phone.
"Tell me." she insists.
"It's nothing, really."
"There is something wrong, but I'm never going to get you to tell me over the phone, so come see me." Laurel says.
"At the hospital?"
"Why not? I get discharged tomorrow, but I won't be back to school until next week."
"Okay. What hospital are you in?" I ask, stopping at a red light.
"Sacred Heart."
"Alright. I'll be there in a few minutes." I say, turning when the light shifts to green.
********************
My breath hitches in my thoat as I'm sitting in the parking lot of Sacred Heart hospital. How are we going to do this without her parents finding out? Before I freak myself out, I just pick up the phone and call her again.
"Hey." she answers.
"I'm outside." I say.
"Okay. My mom is out running some errands and stuff, and my dad barely ever comes to part of the hospital, so just walk in. Tell them you're here to see me." She says.
"Okay. I'll see you in a second then."
"I can't wait." Laurel says, and I can here the smile in her voice.
"Bye." I say, smiling myself.
"Bye." she says, before hanging up.
I get out of my car and walk into the hospital and up to the secretarial desk.
"I'm here to see Laurel Eaton." I tell the nurse behind the counter.
"And you are?" she asks.
"I'm her aunt." I lie.
"Room 212."
I nod and thank her, then start in search for the room.
When I finally find the room, my heart starts pounding erratically as I reach for the doorknob. I twist it and there she is... beautiful as always. Her eyes are closed, but Melony sees me and smiles. I put my finger to my lips, telling her to keep quiet. She nods.
Slowly, I creep up to Laurel's bedside and I place my lips onto hers. Immediately her eyes fly open. Instead of moving back to see my face, she pulls me closer, crushing my lips against hers. Her cool tongue trails my bottom lip and I allow her tongue to slip inside my mouth.
"Eh um." Melony clears her throat.
I pull away from Laurel and turn to smile at her.
"Hello Melony."
"Hi Julia." she laughs.
"How are you?"
"I'm fine." she shrugs, "but you're not here to see me. So I'll leave you two love birds alone."
She gets up from off the bed and leaves and I turn to look back at Laurel.
"So, tell me what was bothering you, earlier when you called." she says, staring deep into my eyes, "And don't you dare lie to me."
"I just missed you, that's all." I say, taking her hands into mine.
"Really?" she asks.
"Yes." I blush.
"That's good to know." she smiles gently.
"How so?"
"Well, it just seems like I love you more than you love me." she says, "That's why when we broke up I fell apart, but I would see you everyday and you were perfectly fine."
"That's not true." I assure her.
"That's how it seemed." she says, looking down at her hands.
"I'm just really good at hiding pain." I tell her.
Her hand find its way to the side of my face and she caresses my cheek lightly.
"I don't ever want you to feel like you have to hide any thing from me, feelings, thought, whatever it may be." she whispers to me, "Even if the feelings are loneliness or anger. And even if some of those thoughts are completely absurd. If you need reassure, attention, whatever you want...I'm willing to give it to you, whenever, because I love you."
"What did I ever do to deserve you?"
"I think it's the other way around." she says, moving closer to my face before she connects her lips with mine.
She pulls me back onto her as she lays back on the hospital bed. Her hands trail up and down my back as she circles her hips against mine and I moan into her mouth. We're so lost in the moment, we don't even hear the door open or close.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!"
