Graduation

Laurel's POV

We're in the last few minutes before we head to the college for my graduation ceremony and everyone is a nervous wreck. This morning has been nothing but organized chaos. There's the task of getting me ready, then everybody else.

Nervously, I run my hand over my dress.

For graduation, I decided to wear a short white dress with a black garden pattern coming up a single side of the dress, the black pattern widening around my waist, and growing small again across my chest as it created a single strap over my right shoulder. Waist length of the dress is a black strap going around the dress with an elegant iron-like flower in the middle. I decided to wear black heels, but right now I'm wearing a pair of black NIKE slippers my mom got me as an early graduation gift.

"Do you have your cap and gown?" My mom asks as she comes walking down the hallway.

She got here about 3 days ago, and she has really been behaving herself. She's been staying with us in the guest room so I can keep an eye on her 24/7. Steph was a little skeptical about it at first but she's been really warming up to my mother lately. They went grocery shopping together yesterday which I thought was pretty weird but neither one of them seem to think anything of it so I kept my opinion to myself.

"Yeah, I do." I say, pulling my royal blue gown and cap off the back of the living room's love seat.

"Your shoes?" My mother inquires again, using her hand to steady herself on the wall as she puts on her own heels.

"You look great Mom." I compliment.

"Thanks hun." She says, running her hand over her dark beige dress pants. "You look way better than me though."

She walks over to me, and turns over my charm necklace so the charm is facing outward where people can see it.

"Have you seen Momma?" I ask, as she starts laying my curls down in their proper places.

"I just left out the room with her. She should be ready in a second." She replies nonchalantly, focusing on my hair.

When my mom arrived, we all came agreed that I should call Steph, Momma, and her Mom, to avoid confusion when I was calling one of them. Surprisingly, my mom was completely fine with me calling Steph, Momma. She'd told me that night she arrived before I went to sleep that she understood why I loved Steph so much. And it didn't bother her that I called Steph what I did because Steph had been there for me when she hadn't.

"Are we all ready?" Steph asks, coming into the living room.

"I believe so." My mom says, looking me over and then back at Steph.
