Until After My Birthday

Laurel's POV

I wake up the next morning on the couch in the living room. My eyes ache to be closed again and my head is pounding. Slowly I lift myself off the couch and start for my room. Inside my bathroom I open the cabinet next to the mirror and pull out the bottle of Tylenol.  I take the water glass from onside my sink and fill it with water from the faucet. I throw the pill to the back of my throat before downing the glass of water. I set the glass down back on the counter inspect my face in the mirror. There are small bags under my eyes and my eyes themself are dry and slightly red. Nothing some foundation and eye drops can't fix.

I take off my clothes and get in the shower even though I took a shower last night.

I get out, towel off and walk into my closet picking out a pair of skinny jeans, a white Cami and a light blue jean jacket leaving my arms bare with a pair of white sandles. I put on my  make up and   the eyed drops then I slip my clothes  on over my black lace underwear and bra before I go back to my room in search of my bookbag. Then it hits me. Shit! I left my bag in her car!!  I face palm myself, grabbing my phone and letting my hair down from the ponytail, leaving it in its naturally spiraling state.

"Where's your bookbag?" Steph asks me when I walk into the kitchen.

"I...left it in that friend's car." I say.

"What friend?" My father asks, as he appears in the kitchen suddenly.

"What are you doing here?" I ask confusingly.

"I live here." He chuckles.

"I mean-"

"I know what you meant." My father smiles, "I'm bringing some of my appointments to the office today."

"Oh okay."

"So who's this mysterious friend we're talking about?" He presses.

I look at Steph pleading with her to help me.

"The friend she rode home with yesterday  because I had to stay late after school."  Steph jumps in.

"Oh alright." My father says, taking a sip from his coffee mug.

"We should get going." Steph says, grabbing her purse from on the bar.

"Yea." I agree.

"See you later kiddo." My father says, walking forward and kissing me on the forehead.

Then he kisses Steph. And its not just a regular good bye peck. Its a get-a-room-why-are-you-doing-that-in-public kiss.

"Eww!" I shriek.

They break apart and Steph smiles as my father lays his forehead on hers.

"You guys are gross."

"Have a great day." Steph tells my father laying her hands on his chest before pecking his lips one last time.

We walk out into the garage and my father starts for the office.

"So things are all good with you guys?" I ask as we get in the car, "With the baby and all?"

"Umhmm." Steph answers.

"So you guys are keeping it?"

"Yes." Steph smiles.

I look at Steph as she pulls out of the garage and onto the road. For once since this whole baby thing came about she actually looks happy. Her skin is brighter, and her eyes hold some type of sparking light that it didn't have before.
