Ash let out a nervous squeak as he buried himself in a book.
Today was the day
His check up.
The day he had so wanted to avoid.
He gulped. He hoped the doctor would be nice.
Pikachu sensed his anxiousness. " Pika." It said, nussling its trainers hand.
Ash looked down. " Yeah, Pikachu. Everything will be fine."
" Ash Ketchums?" A familiar voice called.
Ash turned. It was Brock.
" Brock?!" He exclaimed. " W.. what are you doing here?! Aren't you a pokemon doctor?*
Brock chuckled. " Yes, I am, but there's not many human doctors out in the forest."
Ash laughed nervously. " Right."
Brock led him through the Reeds. " Don't worry. I'll be very gentle."
Ash nodded. " Hope so."
When they stepped through the Reeds, Ash noticed the place was a cave.
With Bricks medical tools on a rock that looked like a table and pillows on another.
" Sit." He said as he pulled gloves on.
Ash sat down slowly, his eyes darting around the cave as his nerves grew. The makeshift "clinic" Brock had set up seemed cozy enough, but that didn't ease the anxious churning in his stomach. He was never too fond of check-ups, and even though he trusted Brock, he couldn't shake the nerves.
Pikachu hopped onto Ash's lap, sensing his trainer's tension. "Pika pi," it whispered, nuzzling Ash's hand in comfort.
Ash gave Pikachu a weak smile. "Thanks, buddy," he murmured. He looked up at Brock, who was pulling on a pair of gloves with an easy, reassuring grin. "So, uh... this is where you do your check-ups?"
Brock nodded as he set the stethoscope down on the "table." "Yep, when I'm out in the field, this is the best I can manage. It's not exactly a clinic, but it gets the job done," Brock said, still smiling. "You've got nothing to worry about, Ash. We're just gonna do a quick check-up, make sure everything's good."
Ash fidgeted slightly, shifting his weight as he sat on the makeshift seat. "Yeah, I guess... just don't really like check-ups."
Brock chuckled as he grabbed the thermometer. "You and a lot of other people," he said with a wink. "But I promise, I'll be quick and gentle, okay?"
Ash nodded, though he still looked a little uneasy. He kept glancing around at the tools Brock had laid out-the stethoscope, bandages, and a few bottles Ash didn't recognize. He gulped, feeling a bit shy about the whole situation. Pikachu nudged him again, as if to remind him that it would all be fine.
"Alright, Ash, let's start with something simple," Brock said. He knelt beside Ash and held up the thermometer. "Open your mouth, and I'll take your temperature."
Ash hesitated for a moment before opening his mouth, letting Brock slip the thermometer in. The moment felt awkward, and Ash couldn't help but feel embarrassed as he sat there in silence with the thermometer under his tongue. Pikachu kept a close watch, its big eyes full of concern.
A few seconds later, the thermometer beeped, and Brock took it out to check the reading. "You're a little warm, but nothing to worry about," he said with a smile. "Could just be nerves."
Ash laughed nervously. "Yeah, maybe."
"Okay, let's check your heartbeat next," Brock said, picking up the stethoscope. "Take a deep breath for me."
