" I just want to make sure you DESERVE to be Ash's buddy, understand?"
" Agh! Come on! What is WITH this guy?!" Goh yelled as he accusingly pointed at Gary.
A sweat drop appeared on Ash's head. " Oh, well, he always used to act this way with me. By the way, what was the goal you were talking about?"
" A legenda-"
Before he could finish, an Altaria dropped a girl with a pink dress and blue shoes onto Gary, tackling him onto the ground.
" HE'S HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE!"
Gary winced slightly. " Wisty, you're gonna make me deaf one day or ano- WOAH!" he yelped as Wisty, with suprising strength for her young age, grabbed Gary by the hand and started to spin.
Well, Wisty's feet stayed on the ground. Gary's?
Not so much.
Well, not at all.
In fact, HIS feet were in the air like a ragdoll's, and he yelped everytime Wisty swung him.
" WISTY YOU'RE GONNA KILL HIM!" Ash yelled.
Wisty stopped.
But before she did, she swung Gary into a high tree. With a yelp, he went from the ground to soaring in the air to being stuck in a tree.
Ash ran to the trunk. " Are you okay?" He called.
Gary glared at him. " Do I LOOK okay?"
Ash grinned sheepishly. " Sorry."
Gary glared at Wisty. " You could have said hi like a normal person!"
" IT'S MORE FUN!"
Gary, still stuck in the tree with leaves sticking out of his hair and his face flushed with frustration, grumbled, "Fun for who?!"
Wisty clapped her hands, bouncing in place with excitement. "For me, obviously!" she chirped, grinning ear to ear. "Besides, you should've seen your face! Priceless!" She wiped an imaginary tear from her eye, laughing to herself.
Ash sighed, leaning against the tree with his arms crossed. "Wisty, you've really gotta stop doing that. Gary's gonna start avoiding us if you keep launching him into the air every time he shows up."
Gary, still dangling, groaned. "Start? I already want to avoid you guys."
"Come on, Gary. You know you'd miss us," Ash teased, giving him a lighthearted smile.
Gary sighed, resigning himself to the situation. "Yeah, yeah. Doesn't mean I enjoy being a human helicopter every time Wisty gets excited."
Goh, who had been standing off to the side watching the chaos unfold, rubbed his temples. "I... I don't know how you deal with this," he muttered to Ash.
Ash chuckled. "You get used to it. Wisty's always been a little... energetic."
"A little?" Gary interjected from his precarious position, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Wisty, clearly unfazed, looked up at Gary and flashed him a peace sign. "Look, if you wanna stay up there, that's fine by me. But if you're ready to come down, just say the word!"
Gary narrowed his eyes at her. "You think I'm gonna let you help me down after you put me up here in the first place? No thanks. I'll wait for someone else."
Ash grinned. "You sure about that? We can always leave you up there for a bit longer."
Gary's expression turned deadpan. "Not funny, Ash."
Ash shrugged, suppressing a smirk. "Pikachu, mind giving him a little shock to help him down?"
"Pika!" Pikachu happily raised its tail, sparks dancing from its cheeks.
Gary's eyes widened. "WAIT, NO! I'll get down myself!" He frantically began to untangle himself from the branches. After a few clumsy movements and some flailing, he managed to free himself and drop to the ground with a loud thud.
Goh winced. "That looked like it hurt."
Gary groaned, rubbing his sore back. "It did."
Wisty sauntered over, her grin never fading. "Oh, don't be such a baby, Gary. You survived! And now you're on the same level as the rest of us again." She patted him on the back, a little too hard.
Gary winced but stood up, brushing the leaves off his clothes. "I swear, Wisty, one day you're gonna give me whiplash or something."
Wisty winked. "Keeps you on your toes, doesn't it?"
Ash burst out laughing, clapping Gary on the shoulder. "Come on, you know you love the excitement. Admit it."
Gary grumbled something unintelligible, glaring at Ash. "I don't love anything about this. Except maybe when Wisty stops throwing me around like a ragdoll."
Wisty leaned in, smirking. "We'll see about that next time, Gary-berry."
Gary threw his hands up in the air. "Why do I even bother?"
Ash chuckled, wrapping an arm around his friend's shoulders. "Because deep down, you're a good sport."
Gary sighed, shaking his head. "I don't know about that." He glanced at Wisty warily. "Just... try to keep the spinning to a minimum next time, alright?"
Wisty winked. "No promises!"
