" Project Mew this, Project Mew that. Gary's almost as determined to be on the New team as Ash is to be world Champion and beat Leon."
" Mhm." Wisty absentmindedly said as she observed a paragraph of writing on the rock, unaware of the four hidden boys holding their breaths behind the ice wall
" You know, Ash would have been a great candidate. But he's never seen Mew, so-"
Suddenly, Wisty choked. " Eevee, help." She managed to say though coughing.
" Eevee!" The Pokemon jumped on Wisty's back, and she sighed. " Sorry, professor, I thought I saw something."
Then she made a motion with her hand, a motion they knew well- pretend they were under attack!
" Altaria!" Altaria used wind gust, and Sprigatito vine whip.
" Oh, nice talking to you Professor. Gotta go. Uh.... Bye!"
And with that, she put her phone into her pocket and let out a weary sigh. " This is ridiculous." She muttered.
" Sprigatito! Tito!"
Wisty raised a brow. " Is it that time of year?"
" Eevee! Eevee Eevee!"
Wist nodded. " Got it. I'll make a note. Thanks, guys."
Then she turned back to the writing. " Hmm.... Only if someone meets the evil and ancestor of all pokemon, and was hit by both...." She gasped. " No.*
She backed away. " No no no no no!"
She grabbed her bag and looked at her Pokemon. " Come on!" She urged. " We have to go, NOW!*
The Pokemon ran to the exit, and wisty glanced at the ice
" That includes you four!"
No reply.
" Ash, Gary, goh. I know you're there with Horace. Come out! We need to get out!"
The four boys shuffled out of their hiding spot. " How'd you guess?" Gary asked
Wist smirked. " I just did. Now, come on!"
And with that, she grabbed Ash's arm and pulled him out, the others following.
When they got out, ash looked at Wisty. " What happened?"
" Yeah," Gary added. " Why would you care about someone who met an evil pokemon AND Mew and got hit? There's no one alive."
Wisty's hand clenched Ash's arm tighter than she intended, her heart racing. "It's nothing, just...something about the legend hit me weird, that's all."
Ash, sensing the discomfort in her voice, tried to steer the conversation away. "Yeah, Gary, don't sweat it. You know Wisty and her love for ancient stories—sometimes they just get to you."
Gary, always the curious one, wasn’t convinced but dropped the subject for now. "Well, if you say so." He folded his arms, narrowing his eyes at Ash and Wisty. "But that reaction back there? Something’s off."
Horace, who had been quiet most of the time, added, “Are we in danger? Should we be worried?”
Wisty chuckled nervously, giving a dismissive wave. "Oh, come on, Horace. It’s probably just nerves from being cooped up in a cave all day." She glanced at the exit, eager to leave the looming ice walls behind. "Let's just get back to the camp, alright? We'll be safer there."
Eevee let out a small cry of agreement, bouncing at Wisty’s side as they all headed out of the cave.
The cold mountain air hit them hard as they stepped outside, and for a moment, Wisty let her guard down, taking in deep breaths. She tried to shake off the eerie feeling, but the legend kept gnawing at her mind.
Ash, walking just beside her, whispered, "Wisty, what was that back there? You know they’re going to keep asking questions."
Wisty shook her head, her voice low but firm. "I know, but we can't let them know, Ash. Not yet. If they find out what really happened to you…"
Ash bit his lip, eyes flicking to Gary and the others walking ahead. "It's too risky. I get it. But we need to be careful. If that writing was about me—"
"Then we’ve got bigger problems than just them knowing," Wisty finished. "Let’s hope they never find out."
Gary, walking a few steps ahead, suddenly glanced back at them. "You two coming, or what?"
The siblings nodded. " Coming!" Ash yelled, and the duo ran.
" .... That's what I'm worried about."
Misty sighed over the phone. " That's rough. But are you sure that's what it said?"
Wisty sent her the picture.
" Oh ..... Yeah, that's what it says."
Brock sighed over the phone as his Onix let out a growl. " Well, keep Ash safe, for one thing. Two, no one can find out."
" That's what I'm trying to do," she replied firmly. “But it’s not easy. They’re all so curious about the legends, and Ash—he has this way of getting himself into trouble.”
"He's always been like that," Brock chuckled softly, but it quickly faded into seriousness. "Just make sure he stays out of any situations that could expose him. The last thing we need is for someone to put the pieces together."
“Right,” Wisty agreed, glancing back at Ash, who was now playfully poking at Gary’s side. The sight brought a small smile to her face, but her heart sank with the knowledge that such lighthearted moments could be disrupted at any moment.
Misty’s voice broke through her thoughts again. “Just remember, if things get dicey, you’ve got us in your corner. You and Ash are a team, and we’ll figure this out together.”
Wisty nodded, even though Misty couldn’t see her. “Thanks, Misty. That means a lot. I just… I can’t help but feel like time is running out.”
“Just keep an eye on him, and let us know if anything changes. We’re all counting on you.”
As Wisty ended the call, she took a deep breath, trying to shake off the creeping anxiety. She needed to focus on the task at hand: protecting Ash and keeping their secret safe. They were already caught up in something much bigger than themselves, and every moment counted.
"Alright, team," she called out, striding back to where the others stood. "Let’s get moving. We need to stick together, and I want to make sure we stay one step ahead of whatever’s out there."
Ash looked up, his bright eyes shining with excitement. "What’s the plan?"
Wisty met his gaze, trying to appear confident despite the storm brewing inside her. "Just stick close to me, okay? We’ll get through this together."
