Evie's POV

It was only a few days after the match when the rumors started spreading. Lizzie had taken things to a new level, claiming my parents had been involved in criminal activities.

The whispers followed me everywhere—people were staring, snickering.

I had thought I could handle the gossip before, but this felt different.

The rumors were personal, and I couldn't shake the feeling that things were spiraling out of control.

In art class, Shannon sat down next to me, her expression serious. "Evie, people are talking about your family. Lizzie's spreading some awful stuff."

I slumped in my seat, my chest tightening. "I know."

"You need to confront her," Shannon said, her voice firm. "You can't let her get away with this."

But I didn't have the energy for a fight, not with Lizzie. I wanted to disappear. I just didn't know how much longer I could keep this up.

Masen's POV

I overheard the rumors about Evie's family in the locker room. Feely and Gibsie were talking about it, trying to piece together what they had heard.

But it was all lies, and I knew exactly who was behind it.

I found Lizzie after class and pulled her aside, my anger barely under control. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

She blinked at me, feigning innocence. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Stop lying!" I snapped. "You're spreading shit about Evie's family, and it needs to stop."

Lizzie crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "I'm just telling people what they want to know."

"You're ruining her life."

"Maybe she shouldn't have come here in the first place."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Lizzie wasn't going to back down, and I realized then that I had to find a way to protect Evie—before things got worse.
