Evie's POV
I didn't think I'd have the courage to confront Lizzie, but with Masen, Shannon, and Johnny behind me, I knew it was time.
We found her outside the school, gossiping with her usual group. The second she saw us approach, her smirk faded.
"Lizzie," I said, my voice steady. "We need to talk."
Her eyes flicked to Masen, then back to me. "Oh, great. What now?"
"You know exactly what," I replied, my anger rising. "You've been spreading lies about my family, and it ends today."
Lizzie scoffed. "You think anyone cares about your little sob story?"
Shannon stepped forward, her eyes blazing. "Actually, we do. You've crossed the line, Lizzie, and everyone's going to know it."
For the first time, Lizzie looked nervous. Her friends shifted uncomfortably, clearly not wanting to be part of whatever was about to happen.
"You're done, Lizzie," Johnny added, his voice firm. "Everyone knows what you've been doing. It's over."
Lizzie's face flushed with anger, but she didn't have a response. Instead, she turned and stormed off, her friends awkwardly trailing behind her.
I let out a breath I didn't realize I'd been holding, relief flooding through me. It was finally over. The rumors, the bullying—it was done.
Masen's POV
With Lizzie finally out of the picture, things started to improve.
Evie could walk through the halls without the weight of rumors hanging over her head, and I could focus on what mattered most—us.
We spent more time together, away from the drama. Shannon and Johnny stayed close too, and it felt like everything was falling into place.
One afternoon, as Evie and I sat by the rugby field, watching the team practice, I realized something. This was it—this was what happiness felt like.
"I'm glad you're here," I said, my voice soft.
Evie smiled, leaning into me. "Me too."
There were no more secrets between us, no more barriers. Just us, figuring out life together.
