Evie

I'm leaving my first class for the day when the teacher calls my name.

"Evie could you wait a moment" I stop and walk to stand by the wall. When the last student leaves the classroom she turns to me.

"I'm concerned about how much you missed last year. It'll be pretty much if you would catch up on everything you missed"

she pauses and takes a breath.

"But with the consideration of how science must have been the least of you concerns last year, I'm willing to make some adjustments"

I really didn't have time for school last year when my parents died. If I'm being honest, I didn't have time for school before they died ether.

It was hard and both me and Owen had more important matters to handle.

Like make money to feed us. Our parents were poor and the little money they had would never be for the children.

After they died, hit by a police car trying to catch a criminal. We got a lot of money that now helps us go to this expensive privet school.

Owen got to begin his senior year for the second time, but this time he is going to graduate school.

I nod to Mrs.O'Leary. She goes to her desk and pick's up some papers.

"Okay here is what we are going to do. Read these and write a review about what's going on" she gives me the papers.

My head already hurts by the thought of reading this. But I don't say that, instead I thank her and leave shortly after.

Out in the corridor I stop by the bathroom before my next class.

Opening the door I go to the sink and wash my hands. I'm startled by the sudden voice.

"Hello, is someone there" I hear someone asking from in a stall.

"Yes" I answer back. "Can you give me some paper, please" she asks immediately.

"Oh.. yea I can.. just a minute" I pick up a paper roll and pass it to her from under the stall.

She lets out a big breath. The toilet flushes and out walks a redhead.

"Thanks, you're a life savior" she goes to use the sink beside me. "Your welcome" I say.

Looking in the mirror I fix up my hair. "I'm Katie by the way" I glance at her. "I'm Evie"

She nods. "Your new, right." I nod. "Right" I say. "well, maybe I see you around then" she smiles at me and i smile back. "yeah, see you around" we say bye to eachother and she leaves.

I smile to myself. Maybe it won't be as bad as i thought.

I walk in to my art class finding one desk left free.

I pick the seat furthest in. I look out from the window and wait for class to start.

A shadow covers me and I can feel a presence looming over me. looking up I find a tall blonde girl.

She gestures to the seat beside me."Can I sit here" I blink up at her then the words register and I begin to nod. "Yeah, it's free"

She smiles and takes the seat. Turning to me she looks me over. "I'm Aoife" I smile at her. "I'm Evie"

"So, have you gone here long" I start to shake my head. "No, I'm new" I correct.

"Aha, funny me too" Aoife pauses and the says again " Not new to the town but new to the school "

I nod and smile. We stop talking when the teacher walks in and starts the class.

Under the whole class we small talk, laugh and smile with each other.

"Okay class, leave everything on the tables so it can dry." We do what he says.

"So Evie, it was nice to meet you" she smiles when she says it. "Yeah it was nice to meet you to, Aoife"

We both leave the class and walk our separate ways. A little smile stays on my lips the rest of the morning.
