Evie's POV

The next morning, the sky was clear, as if the storm had never happened.

We packed up the camp, exhausted but relieved. The tension from the night before lingered, but now there was a strange sense of calm between Masen and me.

The warmth of the fire from last night and the safety of his presence had reminded me of something important—we were in this together.

As we got on the bus, I took a seat next to Masen again. Shannon sat a few rows behind, Johnny looked over at us and nodded with a small smile.

The trip home was quiet, both of us lost in thought. But as we neared town, I realized something: whatever came next, I wanted Masen to be part of my life.

I wasn't afraid anymore of what others thought or the rumors swirling around us. I had finally found someone who stood by me through everything.

"I'm glad you were there last night," I said quietly, glancing at him.

Masen smiled, his eyes warm. "I wouldn't have let anything happen to you, Evie. You know that."

I nodded, leaning my head against his shoulder. Maybe it was the exhaustion or the relief, but for the first time in a long while, I felt at peace.

Masen's POV

After the trip, I knew there was unfinished business. Evie had been through too much with the rumors Lizzie had spread, and I couldn't let it fester any longer.

It was time to set things right—completely.

I found Evie at her locker the following week, her eyes still tired from the emotional toll of everything.

"Hey," I said, leaning against the lockers. "I think we need to talk to Johnny and Shannon about everything."

She raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "You think they'll care?"

"They should. They're our friends, and they need to know what Lizzie's been doing."

Evie looked hesitant but nodded. "Okay. Let's do it."

Later that afternoon, we gathered in the courtyard, Shannon, Johnny, Evie, and me.

Shannon was immediately on edge, knowing something was up.

"So, what's this about?" she asked, crossing her arms.

I took a deep breath. "It's about Lizzie. She's been spreading rumors about Evie's family, and I'm done letting her get away with it."

Johnny frowned, his gaze shifting to Evie. "What kind of rumors?"

Evie hesitated, but I placed my hand on her arm, silently encouraging her.

She explained everything—the rumors about her parents, the lies about their supposed criminal past.

As she spoke, Shannon's eyes widened, and Johnny's expression darkened.

"I had no idea," Johnny said, his voice low. "That's messed up."

Shannon nodded. "We'll make sure people know the truth. Lizzie's been out of line for too long."

Evie looked relieved, and I couldn't help but feel a weight lift off my shoulders. With Johnny and Shannon on our side, we had the support we needed to finally put this chapter behind us.
