"Are you sure nobody else from Silver Moon will be coming?" asks Rose over the phone.

"Only a couple of guards that don't know who you are. I made sure to choose two of our newly acquired soldiers, that arrived after you left Silver Moon" replies her aunt Sophie "it's only a Luna brunch, there is no reason for Jacob or Beta Mark to come. You'll be bringing Xavier won't you? I desperately want to meet my grandson?".

It had been three and half years since Rose had left Silver moon, and the last time she had seen her Aunt Sophie. Redwood pack was hosting this years' Luna brunch, and had requested Rose act as their proxy Luna. Rose was hesitant at first, but Sophie had pleaded with her to do it, as she longed to see her niece and grandson, and this would be their only opportunity to meet. Technically Xavier was her grand nephew, but Sophie considered Rose her daughter, and therefore Xavier in her mind was her grandson.

"I desperately want you to meet him too, and I've missed you so much Aunt Sophie. You'll also get to see my baby bump, I'm 6 months along now, only 3 months to go" Rose says, becoming excited at the prospect of seeing her beloved Aunt.

With that the she-wolves said their goodbyes. They both needed to get packing and prepare for the Luna brunch. The plan was to stay at Redwood for two whole nights, so they could maximise their time together.

"Why must you stay two nights?" Jacob asks, as Sophie packs her suitcase. She is running back and forth from her walk-in wardrobe selecting items to take. Although she is trying to hide it, Jacob can clearly see how excited she is to go to Redwood for this Luna brunch.

"I told you; Redwood have put together a comprehensive schedule for me while I'm there. Just like Mystic Falls, they lack a Luna, and therefore they have requested my services in various areas of their pack. I'll be doing important diplomatic work to strengthen our pack ties. I thought this is what you wanted?"

Yes, it had been what he wanted, and he couldn't deny what a success her visit to Mystic Falls has been. The tactical games had been a brilliant idea by her, and by all accounts had been a resounding success. But ever since her visit to Mystic Falls, he sensed Sophie had changed. She has grown in confidence, and even seems...dare he say it...happy. Usually, he had to cajole her into participating in the Luna brunches, she always said she hated them. But this time Sophie had planned everything herself, selecting her own guards, and even wanting to extend her stay. Even more perplexing was her wolf seemed to have emerged from hibernation, after more than twenty years, she could shift again. All of this should please him, and it would if he was the cause of her happiness, but he had the distinct feeling it was not him that was making her smile and absentmindedly hum songs these days.

"Besides, I'm sure you have plenty of things to occupy your time with while I'm away. Why don't you spend some time at your club?" she says, as the guards come into the room to take her bags. Jacob flinches at her words. Of course, Sophie knows about his private strip club, it's hard to keep something like that a secret, and she is no fool. However, she always made her disapproval of his owning the club known, expressing it wasn't appropriate for an Alpha of his stature to behave in that way, not once has she encouraged him to go there. Yes, Sophie has definitely changed, and he's not sure he likes it.

"You have your phone, you'll call me if you need anything?" he says, as the guards load her bags into the SUV. He leans down to give her a goodbye kiss. She turns her head at the last moment, so his kiss lands on her cheek and not her lips. Somethings haven't changed. She gives him a stiff pat on his chest and gets into the car. As the car drives away, Beta Mark approaches.

"Is everything set?" Jacob asks the Beta

"Yes, one of her new guards, Trevor, was easy to blackmail. He's under strict instructions to spy on her at all times. I've given him some state-of-the-art surveillance equipment to use while he's there. She won't even be able to take a dump without us knowing about it" says Mark with a sneer.

"Good! I want to know who she talks to, who she spends time with. I want to know everything!"

"Don't worry, if Sophie's up to something, I'll find out" replies the Beta.

"So you're going to take care of mama for me?" says Atlas and he lifts his son into his arms and gives him a goodbye hug.

"Don't worry Papa, I will protect mama and the baby!" Xavier replies, puffing out his chest. Xavier was beyond excited to hear his mother was pregnant and has taken it upon himself to become her personal guard during her pregnancy. His natural Alpha instincts to protect are strong "come mama!" the strong little boy says, as Atlas puts him in the car.

Atlas turns to Rose and pulls her into an embrace, kissing her on the forehead "you sure you're going to be ok? I can come if you like?"

"I'll be fine, we're only going to be in the next territory over, at Redwood" she says, giving him a quick kiss on the lips "besides if anybody has security under control, it's Alpha Knox, nothing can get past that guy".

Atlas chuckles, it's true Knox was a force to be reckoned with "I'm only a phone call away if you need anything" he says, as he leans down and gives her baby bump a kiss "take care of our precious cargo".

As Atlas watches the car pull away, carrying his entire family, he can't help but feel anxious, something doesn't feel right. His gut was telling him to not allow them to go, but he didn't have a valid reason to stop them, and Rose was so excited for the Luna gathering. Maybe it's because he still hasn't told Rose the truth, that's making him feel this way. The longer he puts off telling her about Caden, the harder it's becoming. Still, he can't help shake the feeling that's not the only reason his wolf was pacing back and forth in his mind, something had his wolf senses on high alert. He shook his head of the nonsensical thoughts, Rose was right, she was just staying at Redwood, and Alpha Knox would be protecting them, he couldn't ask for better security. Nothing could possibly go wrong?
