Chapter 65 - Promises

"I should really come with you" says Jin, as he watches Atlas wrap a red bandana and then a black bandana around his wrists.

"You need to stay and protect the pack. You're in charge while I'm gone" replies Atlas

"Shouldn't you at least wait for Knox?"

"There is no time! Knox is feeding me through the live tracker feed from Xavier's toy, I need to go now, before they get too far away" Atlas says as he attaches his mobile phone to the special phone mount on the front of his motorbike "anyway this all my fault, I need to be the one to make this right!"

"What do you mean?" asks Jin

"When I stayed at Mystic Falls, I discovered that Alpha Knight is Xavier's biological father" replies Atlas as he opens the app on his phone, showing Xavier's tracker on the map.

"Alpha Knight is Xavier's father, but Knight is a blueblood?! That must mean Xavier..."

"...is a blueblood too, and that's why the CBC have kidnapped him. That's why he is so much more advanced, both physically and mentally for his age. I really fucked up! I should have confessed everything to both Caden and Rose the moment I found out. I was so scared of losing my family, and now look what's happened?!"

"You can't say that, Atlas! Even if you did tell Caden the truth, and he claimed Xavier as his, you don't know he could have kept him safe. Maybe the CBC would have come after Xavier sooner or even gone to war to get him. Nobody is to blame for this but the CBC!"

"All I know is, I must get my son back! I will not stop until he's safe, and when we return, I'm going to tell Rose everything. No more secrets between us, never again" says Atlas as he puts his helmet on and mounts his bike. Jin places his hand on Atlas's shoulder, giving it a squeeze in support "Goddess speed to you my friend, I will take care of everything here. Send word as soon as you can". Atlas kick starts the bike, and revs the engine, before accelerating onto the gravel road. Jin watches his Alpha zooming away, dust flying in his wake, he can only pray to the moon goddess that he finds Xavier in time, and they both return safely.

Caden and Christie are speeding towards Redwood in his range rover. Christie is at the wheel, while Caden is in on the phone. He is firing off orders to Jaxon, having him prepare the warriors to go to war. Caden initially wanted to bring Delta Josh, but for reasons unknown both Lina and Josh had fallen suddenly ill earlier that day, Lina had even collapsed. Caden had decided to let Josh stay behind to recover and look after his mate. As soon as Christie got wind that Caden was going up against the CBC, she had insisted on coming. Christie had a score to settle with the CBC, and Caden knew she was determined to be by his side today.

Caden is reeling at his brief conversation with Sophie earlier. Lily was Luna Rose, Atlas's chosen mate, and their pup Xavier had been kidnapped by the CBC. But why would the CBC kidnap Atlas and Rose's pup? Caden knew the CBC never did anything without careful planning, precision and calculation, what do they want with Xavier?

His heart is thumping out of his chest, he is finally going to see his Lily again. But she was no longer his, she had a new mate now and she even managed to sire a pup with him. He puts a hand to his chest, he has so many conflicting emotions running through him at this moment, his wolf is in turmoil. The one underlying emotion, stronger than all else, is the instinct to protect his mate. She may not be his anymore, but he will do whatever it takes to help her. This is what he has been relentlessly working towards for over three years now, to finally take down the CBC, ensuring the safety of his mate, and now he will help her pup too.
