Chapter 66 - Vows

Delta Josh stares down at the body of his dead mate, he tentatively reaches out and runs his hand down Trevor's cheek and along his jawline. They have moved Trevor's body into the pack clinic. Josh and Lina had felt the very moment that Trevor died, both of them collapsing. Lina was back at Mystic Falls, still ill and recovering. Josh, being a stronger male wolf, was able to recover enough to make the journey to Redwood Pack. His wolf instinctively knew this would be where he would find their fallen mate. He didn't want to leave Lina, but pack duties called, he had to assume control of Redwood, and he needed to get closure on their dead mate.

"Are you okay?" asks Luna Sophie, she is standing next to Josh, beside the clinic bed where Trevor has been placed. Sophie is rubbing Josh's back, trying to console him "I'm sorry for your loss".

"So, he was a traitor?" says Josh as he clenches his fists in anger.

"Well...he was actually quite a loyal warrior...at least I thought so. I don't know the full picture yet, but it appears he was being black mailed by Beta Mark. Trevor had sickly parents, and a sister he was supporting. All I know is somehow Beta Mark was holding them captive, and had threatened to end their lives if he didn't aid in Xavier's kidnapping. I believe Trevor was under the impression he would be guardian of Xavier and wanted to take care of him, but the CBC had other plans and killed him. I know what's it's like to lose someone you love to the hands of the CBC, I'm so sorry to you and Lina for the loss of your mate".

"Beta Mark!" sneers Josh, he had never liked the asshole Beta. It was one of the reasons he had moved to Mystic Falls "his kill belongs to me! Once we have defeated the CBC, I will challenge Beta Mark, and I will not spare him. The fight will be to the death! Mark will answer to his crimes, not just against Trevor, but to Lily too. His involvement in Xavier's kidnapping is punishable by death, and I will be the one to deliver it to the traitor!"

"Josh! I heard you had arrived!" exclaims Lily, as she enters the room, and rushes to hug her old friend "look at you Josh! I can hardly believe it's really you!"

The two old friends embrace. Josh holds Lily tight against him, bowing his head and shedding silent tears at the loss of a mate he was robbed of knowing. Lily is also crying into Josh's chest, she is relieved to see her old friend, a familiar face. They can give each other much needed support.

"I'll leave the two of you to catch up. Why don't you take a walk in the Redwood Forest and get some air" says Sophie as she leads them out of the pack clinic. Lily links arms with Josh, and they walk arm in arm towards the majestic forest.

"So...Trevor was your mate? I didn't know you and Lina were part of a triad, when did you first realise this?" Lily asks.

"I've always known I was bi-sexual, which I found confusing. I never knew if I would be gifted a male or female mate. When I first met Lina, we assumed we were a regular couple pairing. However, as time passed, we instinctively knew something wasn't quite right. I could never trigger Lina's heat, and we've never been able to conceive. I confessed to Lina I was bi-sexual, and she was the one that began researching our infertility. Her research found our symptoms were synonymise with being part of a triad. We had only just begun searching for our missing mate, but we were too late, and now we've lost him forever" Josh hangs his head in sorrow "I know I can recover from this, but I'm worried about Lina. She's really taken ill; she is beside herself at the knowledge we may never have pups. Lina has longed to become a mother all her life".

"Don't lose hope Josh! I never thought I would have anymore pups after Xavier, but then Atlas and I finally conceived. My beta Jin was the one who helped me understand how to overcome my rejection and move on. He is extremely knowledgeable on such matters.  Jin comes from a medical background, and has some personal experience...in fact...maybe you should talk to him...I'm sure he could help you and Lina. He was actually part of a triad himself" Lily says, squeezing her old friend's hand in support.

"He's part of a triad?! Lina and I have not managed to meet another triad yet. Triads are apparently very rare. Yes, we would love to talk to Beta Jin, do you think we could visit your pack?"

"Of course you can! Once we get Xavier back, you must come to Pine Lake Pack, you will be our honoured guests".

Just then Josh's phone rings, and he answers it. Josh nods his head, listening to the caller "Yes Beta Jaxon, roger that! I will head to the surveillance room now, and await your command". Josh hangs up the phone "that was Beta Jaxon, Knight and Knox have arrived at the CBC compound. Atlas is no where to be seen. They believe he has somehow managed to infiltrate the compound already and is hiding inside the building. I need to get to the surveillance room, we need to try and hack the CBC security system, we might be able to get visuals on Atlas and hopefully Xavier too".

"Oh my goddess, please make sure my baby is ok! Let's go Josh, I want to oversee the surveillance too" says Lily clutching onto Josh's arm, she is shaking like a leaf.

"I don't think that is a good idea, Lily. You're understandably very upset, and we don't know what we'll see on the footage. It's best if you stay with Luna Sophie and try to remain calm".

"You cannot command me, Josh! I out rank you, and I will oversee the operation myself!" says Lily defiantly.

"You must think of your unborn pup. Both Alphas have left commands that I'm to sedate you, if you become distraught. You are right, you out rank me, but I've been ordered to follow the Alphas' orders over yours. I promise you, I will inform you, the moment we have any news" says Josh with sympathetic eyes, as he leads Lily out of the forest and back to Sophie, who is awaiting her.

"Come now Lily, we will pray to the goddess together. Here I found this amongst your belongings" says Sophie as she holds up the Luna Medallion. Sophie slips the medal over Lily's head "I think it's time you wore this. We need to call on the strength of all the Lunas that came before us and pray to the goddess. Our fate is with those who watch over us and our males now".

Lily clutches the medal tight to her chest and whispers "please goddess, I vow to walk whatever path you have planned for me. I will follow your lead without question, just please bring my baby back to me!"
