After leaving the hospital, Sara Hart found herself aimlessly wandering along the tree-lined street, her mind heavy and unsettled.
As a chemical engineer, the thought of a lab accident was her worst nightmare. A life had been lost - someone she didn't even know and yet, she couldn't shake the sadness.
But what weighed on her even more was seeing James Hill in such a state. Life had already been unkind to him, and just when things seemed to be getting on track, fate had played this cruel trick on him.
Why is it that some people, who already struggle so hard just to survive, have to face endless trials?
James Hill was different from her. He truly loved this field, pouring his heart, mind, and sweat into it to change his fate. But life doesn't always reward hard work.
It was a bright September day, the sun high in the sky, but Sara felt an unexpected chill.
She had grown used to being alone - walking alone, living alone. She didn't want to return to the lab, but she didn't know where else to go, so she kept walking, aimlessly, her thoughts a jumble.
At a corner, just as she stepped into the street, a car came speeding around, screeching to a halt. Sara instinctively stepped back but lost her balance and fell to the ground.
"Are you okay?"
The driver jumped out of the car to help her up. "Did you get hurt... Sara?"
The familiar voice pulled her from her daze. She looked up and recognized the boy and his flashy Koenigsegg. "Ethan?"
Ethan Brown quickly bent down to help her to her feet. "Did you hurt yourself?"
Sara shook her head. "No, you didn't hit me."
She had fallen when she stepped back, but the car hadn't touched her.
Ethan glanced at her hand. "But you scraped your hand... Let me take you to the hospital."
It was only then that Sara noticed her palm was burning. She must've scraped it when she fell, and now it was raw, bleeding slightly, and covered in dirt.
"This was my fault for not watching where I was going. It's not your fault."
"Whether it's my fault or not, your hand still needs treatment, doesn't it?" Ethan said, frowning at her casual attitude.
Ethan could tell something was off. The last time he'd met Sara, she'd been composed and focused. Today, she seemed lost, walking straight into the street without even noticing.
As Sara tried to walk away, Ethan grabbed her arm. "You shouldn't be wandering around like this. It's dangerous."
He opened the passenger door and gently pushed her inside. "I'm taking you to the hospital to get checked out. Better safe than sorry."
"I'm not going to sue you, and besides, you didn't hit me," Sara mumbled softly.
Ethan raised an eyebrow, surprised by her bluntness. "I wasn't worried about that..."
In fact, he just wanted to avoid any potential trouble. After all, he had almost hit her. Better to make sure she was okay than leave any risks behind. Still, he didn't expect her to be so straightforward.
Ethan chuckled. "You really do surprise me every time."
He pulled out some antiseptic and cotton swabs from the glove compartment, taking Sara's hand. "If you don't want to go to the hospital, fine. But we need to clean this up, or it'll get infected."
