Dinner with the Lab Group

Before winter break, Sara Hart and Adrian Blake hosted a dinner for her lab colleagues.

Adrian booked a private room at the prestigious JH Grand Hotel.

In the car, Sara looked at him—freshly dressed, his hair neatly styled—and couldn't help but smile.

"You even blow-dried your hair today?"

Adrian, hands on the wheel, kept his eyes on the road but responded with a slightly awkward "Mm."

Sara turned to face him, teasing, "Looking extra handsome today!"

Adrian merely glanced at her, his voice steady. "Don't mess around."

By the time they arrived, they were the first ones there.

Soon, her labmates arrived one after another.

"Mr. Blake!"

"Hello..."

"Nice to meet you, President Blake..."

"Sara!"

Once everyone had exchanged greetings, they took their seats around the large round table.

Despite being a casual gathering, everyone was a little stiff around Adrian—after all, he was Adrian.

Sara, being the youngest in the lab, had always been well cared for by other teammates. The conversation flowed naturally, mostly revolving around their research, experiments, and industry trends.

Adrian, though not in the field of chemistry, was knowledgeable enough to keep up. Given his experience in business and technology, he effortlessly joined their discussions.

By the middle of dinner, as the drinks flowed and the atmosphere lightened, the conversation took a playful turn.

"We were all shocked when we found out that little junior sister was with President Blake. But honestly, Adrian, you may be a high-flying CEO, but our junior sister is no less impressive!"

Adrian glanced at Sara, his gaze carrying an obvious warmth.

"Absolutely."

"Every guy in the chemistry department has tried to learn more about her! Even students from other faculties find ways to ask about her, but she's always been laser-focused on research..."

Sara smiled faintly, sipping her tea, pretending she didn't hear.

The Ride Home

After dinner, most of her labmates were tipsy. Adrian arranged for drivers to take them home.

In the car, Sara watched Adrian leaning against the back seat, his sharp fox-like eyes tinted red from the alcohol.

She reached out, taking his hand. "Are you okay?"

Adrian took a moment before opening his deep, dark eyes. His voice was husky, "I'm fine."

He had drunk a lot tonight.

Since it was Sara's group, he didn't refuse any toasts and ended up drinking more than usual.

Sara felt a pang of concern, touching his warm cheek.

Adrian caught her hand, pressing a kiss onto her palm. His voice was low and gentle, "I'm not drunk. I just haven't had this much alcohol in a while."

Usually, in business settings, no one dared to pressure him to drink. But tonight was different—these were her colleagues and friends.

Though not completely intoxicated, the alcohol dulled his senses. His responses were a little slower, his gaze a little lazier.
