A Change of Plans

Inside the office, Adrian Blake watched as Sara sat across from him, fully immersed in her meal.

"I thought you were supposed to be accompanying your friend to her blind date," he remarked. "How did it end so quickly?"

Sara Hart glanced at him and replied matter-of-factly, "Ella hit it off with the guy, so I was no longer needed."

Adrian raised an eyebrow slightly. "Didn't you say she wasn't interested in blind dates?"

Sara picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork. "Well, her date turned out to be Sam."

"Sam Lewis?" Adrian's fingers paused against his teacup.

"Yep," Sara nodded, "I'll check in with Ella later to see how things went."

Adrian's gaze flickered with an unreadable expression. "I see... That's good."

Sara found his sudden curiosity a little odd. "Since when do you care about this kind of stuff?"

Adrian wasn't usually one to takean interest in gossip.

"Just making conversation," he said smoothly, then nudged a bowl of soup toward her. "Drink some before it gets cold."

When Sara had messaged him earlier saying she was coming over, Adrian had already finished lunch. He had assumed she would eat with Ella Duvall, so her sudden arrival at his office was a bit of a surprise.

"I have a meeting in a bit," he told her. "You can hang out in my office while I'm gone."

"Okay," Sara agreed easily.

As she sat there, she recalled how the company employees had greeted her politely when she arrived—warm but not overbearing. No one made any teasing comments or even mentioned what happened last time.

She let out a relieved sigh, assuming they had all forgotten about her moment of embarrassment.

What she didn't know was that Adrian had privately warned his employees beforehand:

"No gossiping about last time. If anyone makes my wife uncomfortable, they can pack up and leave."

Of course, the employees had readily agreed.

They had long since realized that whenever Mrs. Blake Blake was around, Adrian's usual cold and oppressive aura softened considerably. Their fear levels decreased, and there was even a chance of getting off work early.

For the sake of their well-being, they welcomed her presence wholeheartedly.

A Minor Crisis

At 2 PM, Adrian left for his meeting.

Sara curled up on his office couch, watching TV on her tablet.

Then—

The screen went black.

Sara pressed the power button, but there was no response.

Out of battery.

She got up to search Adrian's desk for a charger but found nothing.

Scanning the room, she realized Adrian's office was too tidy, leaving her nowhere to rummage.

With no other choice, she headed to the secretary's office to look for Charlie Scott.

The moment she knocked on the glass door, all eyes in the secretary's office turned to her.
