A Strategic Partnership
Ella Duvall's eyes gleamed with interest as she casually glanced at Sam Lewis, who was sitting across from her, eating with his usual elegance. His demeanor was refined, unhurried, exuding an air of effortless grace.
Her red lips curved slightly. "Dr. Lewis, do you usually have weekends off?"
"Yes, I follow a standard work schedule."
Ella went straight to the point. "Since we've agreed to this arrangement, we should at least do our homework so we don't slip up later."
She leaned back slightly and introduced herself. "I'm 23, graduated from Beicheng University with a major in graphic design, and now run a café near the university entrance. My family is in real estate, and I have an older brother, Su Heng."
Her voice was clear and direct, laying out the details without hesitation.
Sam Lewis had not expected her to be so straightforward, but he set down his knife and fork, looking at her with a mild smile.
"I'm 27. My parents are academic professors, and my grandfather is a medical practitioner. I followed in his footsteps and now work at a TCM clinic. My routine is simple—just work and home, and on weekends, I sometimes go hiking."
Ella chuckled, her eyes shimmering.
"Dr. Lewis, you're being too modest."
If she hadn't already known about the Lewis family, his introduction would have made him sound like just another doctor.
In reality, Sam Lewis's father was not just a professor but an academician, known for groundbreaking research in organ transplantation. His grandfather was a legendary figure in traditional Chinese medicine. And Sam Lewis himself? A rising star in the field, whose appointment books were impossible to get into.
Their eyes met briefly, and both smiled.
Ella's lashes fluttered as she suggested, "Since we're here, why don't we spend some time getting familiar with each other? After lunch, let's go to my café—I'll treat you to a cup of coffee."
Sam Lewis hesitated for a moment, then his thin lips curved slightly.
"Alright."
Since they were going to fake a relationship, they might as well start acting the part.
Ella's eyes brightened, but just as she was about to send Sara an update, she glanced at the table behind them—
Sara was gone.
Oops.
She peeked at her phone and saw a message from half an hour ago.
[Enjoy your time with your new "boyfriend". I'm heading out.]
She had completely forgotten about her best friend.

A Convenient Ride
After lunch, as they stepped outside, Sam glanced at her.
"I drove here. Did you bring your car?"
Ella was about to pull out her car keys, but then paused deliberately.
"My car's in the shop for maintenance. I took a taxi here."
She glanced at him innocently.
A perfect excuse.
And just like that, she naturally ended up in his passenger seat.

Inside the car, Ella fastened her seatbelt and subtly scanned the interior.
