Lucas Harris's swift acceptance wasn't just because of Adrian Blake's reassurances—it was mostly because he didn't want to hurt Sara.

Their already fragile father-daughter bond couldn't withstand further strain.

Yesterday, everything had happened so suddenly that his emotions got the better of him. But in hindsight, how many young men in North Capital could compare to Adrian? And more importantly, Sara liked him.

Even if things went wrong in the future, as long as he was around, he would protect her.

Letting her make her own choices was the best he could do as a father.

Sara was right—he hadn't fulfilled his responsibilities as a father, so he had no right to interfere in her decisions now.

Lunch was a little awkward—at least for Sara.

She kept glancing between Lucas Harris and Adrian, feeling an inexplicable sense of unease.

Adrian, on the other hand, remained calm and composed. He carefully picked out fish bones before placing a piece of fish in her bowl, casually asking, "What's wrong?"

Sara shook her head. "Nothing."

Then she lowered her head and focused on eating.

"It's just a simple home-cooked meal, Adrian, make yourself comfortable," Lucas Harris said.

"Thank you," Adrian nodded politely. "You can just call me by my name."

He hadn't rushed to change how he addressed Lucas Harris—there would be time for that later. He wanted to properly earn the title of "Dad."

Throughout the meal, Sara barely spoke, while Lucas Harris and Adrian occasionally exchanged a few words about business.

Even as Adrian politely responded to Lucas Harris, he never forgot to place food into Sara's bowl.

Lucas Harris took in everything.

Adrian's actions were effortless, as if he had done this a hundred times before. Sara, too, accepted it naturally, as if it were an ordinary part of their routine.

The quiet understanding between them, the way Adrian subtly cared for her—it was all so seamless.

Before they left, Lucas Harris called Sara into his study.

"Sunny," he said, using the childhood nickname he hadn't spoken in years. "I trust your judgment. I truly hope you'll be happy."

He paused, his expression solemn. "I just hope... you won't resent me."

Sara looked at him, her heart tightening.

She wanted to say she didn't, but the words didn't come.

Lucas Harris stood at the doorway, watching as Adrian and Sara got into the car. He remained there even after the black Maybach disappeared from sight.

"Sir, it's cold outside. You should go in," Uncle Li reminded him.

Lucas Harris continued gazing at the empty road. "Uncle Li, do you think I made the right decision?"

The old butler followed his gaze before speaking. "Miss Sara is a thoughtful person. She knows what she's doing."

"Yes," Lucas Harris murmured.

As the car drove away from the neighborhood, Sara turned to watch the gates disappear in the rearview mirror, her emotions swirling.

She lowered her eyes, clutching the file Lucas Harris had given her.
