Y/N stood in front of the mirror, the lace of her wedding dress shimmering under the soft light. Her heart should have been filled with joy, but instead, it felt heavy. Memories of her time at Hogwarts flooded her mind. She had spent three wonderful years with Theodore Nott, planning their future together, dreaming about marriage and kids. But right before graduation, he had broken up with her and disappeared without an explanation.
"Y/N, are you ready?" her best friend, Enzo, called from outside the room.
"Almost," she replied, taking a deep breath.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed on the vanity. She picked it up, her eyes widening in disbelief as she read the message.
"It's a mistake, Y/N. Marrying someone else. It should be me. - Theo"
Anger surged through her. How dare he? After all these years of silence, after all the pain he had caused, he thought he could just reappear on her wedding day and tell her it was a mistake?
Enzo entered the room, noticing her distress. "What's wrong?"
Y/N handed him the phone, her hands trembling. "It's Theo. He just... He says I'm making a mistake."
Enzo's eyes darkened as he read the message. "That bastard. After all this time?"
Y/N's voice broke. "I don't know what to do. He left me, Enzo. He never explained why. And now he thinks he can just... come back into my life like this?"
Enzo placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Y/N, you need to follow your heart. What do you truly want?"
Tears welled up in her eyes. "I thought I was ready to move on. I thought I could love someone else. But Theo... he's always been the one."
"Then you need to tell him how you feel," Enzo said gently. "Don't make a decision you'll regret for the rest of your life."
Y/N took a deep breath, the truth settling in her heart. She knew Enzo was right. She couldn't go through with the wedding. Not when her heart still belonged to Theo.
With trembling hands, she removed her veil and handed it to Enzo. "I can't do this. I need to see him."
Enzo nodded, offering her a reassuring smile. "Go. I'll take care of everything here."
Y/N rushed out of the room, her wedding dress trailing behind her. She made her way to the spot where she and Theo used to meet at Hogwarts – the old oak tree by the lake. She hoped he would be there.
As she approached, she saw him standing there, looking just as she remembered, yet different. More mature, but with the same piercing eyes that had always seen right through her.
"Theo," she called out, her voice breaking.
He turned, his eyes lighting up with a mixture of relief and fear. "Y/N, I'm so sorry. I thought leaving was the only way to keep you safe."
She frowned, confused. "Safe from what?"
Theo stepped closer, his expression pained. "There were things happening, dark things. I got involved in something dangerous, and I didn't want you to be a part of it. I thought leaving was the only way to protect you."
Y/N shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "You should have told me. We could have faced it together. You broke my heart, Theo. And now, on my wedding day, you come back and tell me it's a mistake?"
"I know," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "And I'm sorry. But I couldn't stay away any longer. I love you, Y/N. I always have."
She took a deep breath, looking into his eyes. "I never stopped loving you, Theo. But you hurt me. And I don't know if I can trust you again."
Theo reached out, taking her hand. "Please, give me another chance. Let me prove to you that I can be the man you deserve. That we can have the future we dreamed of."
Y/N looked at him, her heart aching with love and pain. She pulled her hand back, shaking her head. "I can't, Theo. I can't just forget everything you put me through. I'm supposed to get married today. I need to move on."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Theo standing by the lake, his heart shattered. Y/N returned to the wedding venue, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She tried to focus on her fiancé, the man who had been patient and loving, but Theo's words echoed in her mind.
As she walked down the aisle, she saw Enzo's concerned face. He knew her too well. When she reached the altar, her fiancé took her hand, smiling warmly. But all she could think about was Theo.
"Do you, Y/N, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?" the officiant asked.
Y/N opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She glanced around the room, her eyes meeting Enzo's. He gave her a subtle nod, urging her to follow her heart.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, pulling her hand away. "I can't do this."
Gasps echoed through the crowd as Y/N turned and ran down the aisle, her wedding dress billowing behind her. She knew where she needed to be.
Back at the lake, Theo was still there, sitting on the ground, his head in his hands. He looked up as she approached, hope flickering in his eyes.
"You were right," she said, breathless. "I can't marry him. I still love you, Theo. But you need to prove to me that you're worth the pain."
Theo stood, his eyes shining with determination. "I will, Y/N. I promise. I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you."
Y/N nodded, tears streaming down her face. "Then let's take it one day at a time."
Theo reached out, pulling her into his arms. "One day at a time," he agreed.
As they stood there, wrapped in each other's embrace, Y/N knew that despite the pain and heartache, she had made the right choice. Theo was the one she had always loved, and together, they would build the future they had always dreamed of.
