Wanda was standing in front of Phelros while he sat in his throne, elbows on his knees as he leaned forward. "How many times must I tell you to be careful, my child?"
"Till it sticks?" She said with a shrug, repeating her response to the red cloak.
He sighed and dropped his head down. "If they don't know you still live now they will soon. And next time, they'll know to wait and kill you again. At which point there is nothing I can do for you." He looked back up at her. "Do not engage with this person anymore. Simply run. It's the best way for you to stay alive."
"I'll try, but there's only so much I can do if she chases me."
"I know." He took a deep breath and sat up straight. "I also know you told your friends you were a warlock."
"By accident!" Wanda held up her hands in defense. "I thought they knew, turns out they didn't know, but now they know because I thought they knew."
He chuckled. "Relax. If you deem them trustworthy, then it's your call. Enid and Wednesday were accepting, so perhaps the times are finally changing."
Wanda sighed. "I hope so."
"On a happier note, I'm glad you made process in your healing journey finally."
Wanda smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of her neck. "Yeah. Sorry for being a bitch that day. And thanks for helping."
He leaned on his right armrest. "You never have to thank me for that. I'm just glad you're doing better. And that Enid and Wednesday found you when they did."
"Me too." She perked uo as she remembered something. "Oh! Why did you take away the not being able to sleep thing?"
"Because you're a young girl going through a lot. You deserve to be able to rest properly. Do you not like it?"
"I mean, I guess I do. I'm just not really used to it yet. I feel like a baby who can't regulate tiredness. I get tired and I just fall asleep without meaning too. I mean, I even face planted into my bowl of cereal this morning."
Phelros laughed. "How I wish I saw that." He sighed contentedly. "Alright, I'll send you back to your friend. Do be careful, please. If you can anyway."
"Wait! Quick question!" He nodded for her to continue. "I think it may be possible the person that set the fire is the same one trying it kill me now. Are there other warlock pacts that slow aging?"
Phelros hummed in thought as he looked down and grabbed his chin. "Technically, I believe they all can. It's a matter of whether the patron wishes to share a portion of their immortality. Then of course there's Arkno's workaround by turning all his warlocks into vampires. But only he can do that, being the father of them and all."
Wanda sighed. "So basically we still can't narrow it down."
He looked back up at her. "Afraid not. But I'll look into it. If the person who set the fire is dead, they would've been sent to my circle. I'll have my workers search the soul files. If they're dead, I'll know."
Wanda smiled appreciatively. "Thank you. Really."
He smiled back softly. "Of course. Now return to your friend. We'll talk soon."
And before she could say anything, her consciousness zoomed back to her body just in time to hear Ajax finish whatever tangent he started while she was gone. "And that's why I think my deeply rooted fear of losing control of my life stems from jellyfish."
They were laid down in his room on the floor facing each other while they played Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on their Nintendo Switches. Wanda had Scarlet while Ajax had Violet. It was after school on Monday, so they decided to just chill and relax until Wanda had her date with Wednesday. That is until Phelros hijacked her consciousness so they could finally talk about Saturday since she was busy Sunday and now sleeps through the night.
