Wanda was with Ajax at their afternoon club on Monday. It was a Smash Bros club where they were the only members. Kent would've joined too, but his choir club with Divina and Bianca meets at the same time. It was a small room where they sat on the floor on some pillows in front of the old TV. It was probably the one game Wanda never needed to cheat in. She was actually good and Ajax could never beat her. No matter how close he got sometimes.
"Ugh! You're the worst!" Ajax exclaimed and flopped back as he lost once more.
Wanda was laughing. She killed him by edge blocking so he couldn't get back up. "Simply be better."
He sighed. "I hate you sometimes."
"Love ya too." She grabbed a fistful of popcorn and shoved it into her mouth like a heathen. It was quiet for a moment, the only sound being Wanda's crunching.
"Wanda?" Ajax began carefully, staring up at the ceiling.
"What?" She asked with her mouthful since it's not like Ajax was looking at her.
"Are you gonna be okay this year? Because everyday we get closer to your meltdown, I get more worried."
Wanda swallowed her popcorn and sighed. "Well don't. I definitely won't be hurting myself this year."
Ajax turned to her, still lying on the floor. "You promise?"
"Unfortunately." Thanks to Phelros, she wouldn't be able to even if she tried.
He sat up. "So maybe the therapy did help?"
She scoffed. "Definitely not. Look, I'll be fine like I always am."
"I think we have different definitions of fine. If you really were, you wouldn't have the meltdown to begin with."
She frowned and looked at the controller in her hand. She knew he was right. Wanda hasn't been fine since that day. It's why she's always messing around and doing pranks. Trying to make sure everyone else was happy. Fake it till you make it. Well, Wanda's been faking it for a hundred years. Only she's never really made it. She could have happy moments, but she was never really happy.
When Wanda didn't respond, Ajax continued. "Please just talk to me, Wanda. You're the best friend I've ever had, and I just want you to be okay."
Wanda placed her controller down. "You should pick better friends then." She stood up to walk away from the conversation and her feelings. But then the door opened and in walked Wednesday of all people. "Wednesday?" Wanda stopped where she was.
"Weems is making me pick a club to join." She looked down at the clipboard. "This Smash Bros seemed intriguing." She looked back up at them. "So what are we smashing?"
Ajax pointed at the TV. "It's a video game where you fight each other."
Wednesday's body seemed to deflate a little. "I seem to have misunderstood the name."
Wanda giggled, realizing Wednesday thought they were probably physically smashing things. "Sorry, but the only thing we smash is each other."
"Ayo, pause!" Ajax exclaimed as he leaned back.
Wanda held up a finger. "That came out wrong." She shook it off. "Are you least enjoying seeing the clubs?"
"I had the unfortunate experience of having to speak to Xavier Thorpe for the first time, so the evenings been full of disappointments."
Ajax chuckled. "He's not that bad." Wanda turned to him and gave him a pointed look making him sigh. "Okay, yeah. He's pretty bad."
Wanda turned back to Wednesday. "Sorry you're having a bad day. Anything I can do for you?"
