Sunsets and Nightmares

Soul was recovered in a few days. We had no idea what happened exactly. Stein was still working it out. Lord Death gave us a mission to go on, just Soul, Maka, and I. we were to go to Canada to find a Kishin who had been terrorizing people for months.

I was stoked for it. so was Maka. Soul seemed uncertain. it would be in two months...unfortunately. I wanted to leave now. but for now we would just hang out here and keep going to the academy to watch Stein dissect endangered species.

I scoffed, my feet swinging back and forth as I sat on the edge of the roof of our apartment building. My (e/c) eyes fixed on the setting sun. I felt the wind against my face and shivered slightly, it was getting chilly. fall would be coming soon.

A blanket was draped around my shoulders. " you could catch a cold out here...." I felt someone sit next to me " thanks mom " I muttered, knowing it was Soul. " what's got you in this mood. " he inquired. i shrugged. he smiled and put his arm around my shoulders.

I set my head on his shoulder and let out a soft sigh. he chuckled. we sat there until the sun was fully set. he then nudged my gently. " you awake?" I smiled and poked him. " No " I added sarcasm my reply.

" Good, then I can do this... " he turned and kissed me. I happily kissed him back. I loved how he was so gentle, he wouldn't push to far. when we parted I gave him a big smile. " thanks Soul, I needed that. especially after scaring me so bad. " he nodded and stood up.

" Trust me, I didn't know it would happen" he pulled me to my feet and held both of my hands. I faced him, our bodies engulfed by the moonlight. " please don't die on me, I don't want you to ever die..." I sniffled, a single tear falling down my face.

" Aww, ok..." he wrapped his arms around me in a hug. I could feel his heart beat. "...I won't die on you, I promise..." i smiled softly, feeling a weight lift from my shoulders. I can rest easy now. " it's getting late...want to go in? "

I nodded. we climbed off the roof and into my bedroom. Soul flopped down on the bed. "tired?" I giggled softly and joined him. " Yeah " he muttered, his voice muffled due to the blankets he had shoved his face to.

" Ok, go get changed. " I helped him get off the bed and walked him to the door. I tried my hardest not to laugh. he really was tired.

I shut the door and threw my clothes off, finding my cute pjs Maka and I got. Quickly putting them on, I smiled. I went over my nightly routine before I go to bed and waited for Soul to come back.

When he finally came back to the room I giggled. he looked almost like a zombie. we climbed back into bed. Soul fell asleep instantly. he was so cute when he slept. soon I was sleeping too.

When I awoke I was pressed against a warm body. the blankets were at an odd angle and arms were wrapped around me. " Soul... " I whispered.

He must've had nightmares, I knew I was a heavy sleeper so I wouldn't have woken up. " hey Soul " I spoke a bit louder. "hmm!?" His eyes shot open.

" Nightmares?" I asked right away, he was definitely awake. he slowly nodded. I looked up at him. " Ok...we should get ready for school. tell me about it when we head off. " I kissed him and got up. he almost rolled off the bed, kinda shocked by the kiss.

I was worried. he was acting different. I wonder how bad those nightmares were. I hope he will be ok. I don't think I could live without him...
