Chapter Twenty-Six

The game was almost over and I was starting to get tired and cold.

I crossed my arms over my chest and Sage noticed. "Want my hoodie?" He asked and I nodded, biting my bottom lip. He took it off, helping me put it on. "Thank you," I smiled. He leaned over to my ear, "Just got to let me take it off later too," He whispered and I could feel the smirk on his face. I let out a small breath, purifying my thoughts, before he drew his attention back to the game.

I slowly laid my head on his shoulder, wrapping my arm around his, feeling his bicep. Everyone was focused on the game and not us, so I wasn't too concerned of anyone seeing. He titled his head, resting it on top of mine, and I couldn't help but smile. My body instantly feeling warm. He kissed the top of my head quickly, before straightening his head again.

"Hey Sage, can I crash with you tonight? My roommate has his brother over," Aiden called out, down the row. I quickly raised my head, as Sage leaned forward to see him. " Can't man, I got company coming over tonight," He winked, and everyone rolled their eyes except for me and Zoey. "Like who, D's little sister over there?" Aiden teased. I quickly let go of Sage's arm, sitting stiff and straight. Declan's eyes widened and he looked over at us. "What in the hell is that supposed to mean?" He shouted, and suddenly our row went silent.

Oh boy.

"Aiden, what the fuck," Sage scolded, throwing his hand up. Aiden shrugged, turning away, back to watching the game. I was frozen, caught in my brothers stare.

Death stare.

"Are you hooking up with Sage, Peyton?" He questioned, his face starting to turn red with anger. I had nothing to say, what was I supposed to say? Yes? No?

I could've thought of a lot better of things, but instead, I said...

"Why would it matter if I was?"

That was definitely the wrong answer.

He was practically blowing smoke out of his ears at this point.

"What the actual fuck." He spat at Sage. "Declan, listen-" Before Sage could even finish his sentence, D got up and walked off. Such a mature human he is. Jesus, so dramatic.

We all quickly got up and followed him out to the sidewalk. "Declan, wait bro!" Sage called out, as we approached. "You son of a bitch," He yelled at him. Before anyone could say or think, Declan's fist met Sage's jaw. Sage spit blood out of his mouth, onto the concrete.

"My little sister man, seriously, what the hell is wrong with you." D shouted, about to punch him again, but Sage swung first, causing him to stumble back.

I just stood there in shock, watching as they fought, before Max and Aiden finally got them apart.

"D, it's not-" I tried talking to him but he rolled his eyes. "Mom was right," He paused, "You're just a disappoint of a daughter and a sister."

Tears filled my eyes, falling down my face. Zoey and Aiden walked away with Declan, leaving the rest of us standing. "He'll be okay, just give him some space," Max mumbled to me before walking away too. Sage crouched down on the ground, still spitting out some blood. I walked over to him, reaching for his hand, "Come on, I'll clean it," I said. He took my hand, standing up, and we started walking back to his dorm.

-

Sage sat on the edge of the bed, me standing in front of him, dabbing the blood off of the gnash that was in his lip with a wet washcloth. "P," He grabbed my wrist, lowering my hands. "I'm sorry." I shook my head, "Don't be." I tried to turn and walk away before I started crying again, but he stopped me. "But I am." I laid my forehead against his, closing my eyes.

"You're just a disappointment" replaying in my mind. No one has ever called me that, except my mom.

I felt a tear roll down my face, so I opened my eyes to meet Sage's. His eyes full of regret and concern. "Why did he say that about your mom?" He asked and I shook my head. "No more talking tonight, just kiss me."
