Chapter 85
Nat's POV

I sighed loudly as my head fell into my hands, supported by my elbows that sat on my desk.

Was I being to hard on Claire?

I was trying to protect her. I always had her best interest in mind. I just felt like she was fixating on something because in reality she was scared of hydra taking her back, frankly I was terrified of it as well. I felt bad for being so dismissive of her but I thought I was doing the right thing, I thought it would help her move on from it. I had to go clear the air with her, I couldn't have this weighing over us.

I walked through the lounge, towards the door to the dinning and kitchen area. As I approached the door I could hear voices and those voices belonged to Claire and Bucky. I went to push open the door and then I heard them talk again.

"What happened to your eye?" Bucky asked.

"It doesn't matter" Claire answered.

There was a moment of silence and then Claire spoke up again.

"Bucky she won't listen to me" Claire said

"Who won't listen you about what Claire?" Bucky asked.

"I have proof Sarah is working for hydra and Nat won't hear me out" Claire spoke louder.

"I thought Nat said you needed to stop with these theories?" Bucky sighed.

"For god sakes they are not theories. Why won't anyone just listen to me" Claire said getting frustrated.

I walked through the door and Claire turned to look at me. She was obviously annoyed and irate, I not only could hear that in her voice but it was also written all over her face. I had never seen her look so angry.

"Claire please" I said. "Just listen to me sweetheart, I know you're angry but this is getting a little out of hand".

"No you're not listening to me! Neither of you are. You're so quick to dismiss me but you won't even hear me out" Claire started shouting. "Out of everyone I thought you would at least let me explain Nat, but you won't even let me talk".

"It's just that I need to believe in shield. You know what shield means to me. What they did for me. They gave me a chance. If it wasn't for Clint, fury, shield and the avengers I would still be lost. I know they have done everything in their power to find who this person was who was helping hydra and they found them and arrested them, you saw that" I explained.

"But why can't you believe in me as well?" Claire sighed in defeat.

Such simple words but they stabbed me right in the heart.

"Claire maybe you haven't been sleeping lately and you might just be a bit nervous with these hydra attacks" Bucky suggested.

"Seriously James, you have no idea" Claire said as Bucky stepped back at her use of the name James.

"Claire, you know I believe in you. But this has gone too far darling" I said looking at her hoping she would see reason.

"I am sick to death of not being heard" Claire said again. "And you didn't even have my back with Sarah just before. You are always there to support and protect me but where was that Nat this time, I needed the Nat I know and love but she wasn't there"

If this was a guilt trip competition then Claire would be winning that's for sure. 

"I am sorry but I think you're being childish Claire" I said and regretted it the second it came out of my mouth.

"Childish?" Claire repeated with an annoyed tone. "I'm going to go cool down before I say something I'll regret. If you could please do the same so that later we can sit down and I can show you the proof I have".
