Claire's POV

Nat's hand come to rest on top of my own hand that was sitting on my uncontrollable bouncing knee. Anxiety was rising up inside me. I didn't know what I wanted to do more, cry, scream or vomit. I was nervous about the mission just due to the fact that I felt like all my recent missions have been a failure in different ways. I didn't want to let the team down and I wanted them to see me an important part of the Avengers. The other reason I was about one bad thought away from chucking up my breakfast was the fact that I could be walking into a building where I might have to face my biggest fear, see the face that haunts me every day and night. I had always thought about the day that I got to kill him but now that there was a possibility that he would be at this base I wanted to run and hide. I don't think I could look him in the eyes without wanting to crumple to the floor out of pure fear. This man had no name to me. He introduced himself all those years ago when hydra First took me as Sir, just Sir, that's what we had to call him. I didn't know his actual name. I saw him in my nightmares almost every night, his voice, evil smile and his face were burnt into my memory forever.

"It's okay sweetheart. You'll do amazing, I trust you and so does everyone else. You're strong and you're capable. Nat soothed, knowing my mind would be ticking over a million miles an hour.

"Thanks Nat" I smiled.

I held on to Nat's Hand as we landed. The back door to the jet opened and I took a deep breath in before standing.

We had all been expecting a fight, a battle, anything but complete emptiness. They were all gone, whoever had been here had left what looks like a few hours ago.

Again, they must have been informed we were on to their location.

We scoured the place, trying to find any information that would lead us to their new whereabouts. Everyone searched room after room after room on multiple levels, no new leads were found. As we were about to give up Tony called me over to him.

"Did you find something Tony?" I asked.

"Possibly but I called you over here because I need someone smaller to crawl through" he explained.

"Crawl through what?" I questioned.

I saw Nat out of the corner of my vision look up from the computer she was looking at me and started making her way over to where I was standing with Tony, curiosity spiked in her eyes.

"That, it leads somewhere but I don't know where and it was well hidden so it must be important" he explains as he points towards a round hole in the wall.

It looked like a small tunnel, I would have to lay flat on my stomach and pull myself through it. It would be tight but I could fit in it, I just didn't want to. The tunnel was surrounded by spider webs and as far down as I could see it was full of spider webs.

"Through that? That's a hard pass from me" I replied.

"Oh come on Claire you'll be fine, it's only like that for a short distance and then it opens up into what looks like a room from what I can see from Friday's scan" Tony tried to sound convincing.

Nat reached my side and ran her fingers over my back as she moved to my other side. I smiled at her as she gave me a little wink.

"What are you trying to make her do Stark?" Nat asked.

"Crawl through this tunnel, that's it. Actually why don't you go through it Nat, since this one is too scared". Tony said rolling his eyes as he pointed towards me.

"Hey I'm not scared, I just don't want to" I corrected him.

"Yeah and I don't want to either, I don't do spiders" Nat shrugged. "Ask Yelena".
