Chapter 78
Claire's POV

I shot upright in bed, hair sticking to my face and the sheets messily crumpled around me. I sat there trying to catch my breath and ground myself. There's was absolutely no reason for me to be scared, I was safe, I was with Nat and I was at the compound. So I thought I was with Nat until I reached over to her side of the bed and realised she wasn't there.

Another nightmare, great.

I groaned as the light from my phone hit my eyes as I checked the time, it was almost midnight. I had only been asleep for an hour and I was already woken up by a nightmare. Nat must have still be in the meeting room. Nat, Steve and Tony have been having a lot of late night meetings lately to try come up with solutions for hydra. I know she's working hard and doing so to find a way to protect me but I just wanted her to come to bed at the same time as me for once.

I sighed and got up out of bed to head downstairs. I could not be bothered making a cup of tea so I just sat there with a glass of water.

I smiled as I felt Nat walking around, her familiar presence was comforting. I turned in my chair to face the door way and greeted her with a smile.

"Why are you still up?" Nat asked when she saw me.

"I had a nightmare" I said.

"That's early in the night for a nightmare" Nat said as she walked up behind me and placed her hands on my shoulders.

"Can we go to bed please?" I asked.

"I'll be up shortly" Nat said as she kissed the top of my head.

I went upstairs alone and climbed into bed. I wanted to drag her up here with me so I could fall asleep in her arms but I knew she was busy. She also looked so tired, I felt bad that she was missing out on sleep at the moment.

When I woke up the next morning Nat wasn't there again. She had come to bed about an hour after me last night and was gone again before I woke up. I realised what she was doing was important but it didn't make me miss her any less.

Claire- I didn't even get to say good morning. -0623

Nat- sorry sweetheart. We have a few leads we are working on so I've been in the meeting room since 5. -0627

Claire- you need to rest Nat. -0629

Nat- I'm doing this to keep us all safe. To keep you safe my love. -0629

Claire- I know and I love you for that but you also have to look after yourself. -0630

Nat- I know. I'll try to come to bed earlier tonight. I'll come find you whenever we have a break. I love you. -0632

Claire- I love you too. -0632.

They won't take a break. They never do when they are working like this.

I ran into Wanda downstairs and she asked if I wanted to help her in the kitchen. I followed her, chatting as we went.

"What are we making Wands?" I asked.

"I'm making more cookies, this time a double batch, because last time I made them they were gone so quickly" she said stirring around looking at me.

"It wasn't me" I smiled.

Wanda grinned and arched her brow at me.

"It wasn't just me" I corrected myself.

Wanda laughed and started taking various bowels and ingredients out of cupboards.
