Chapter 38
Claire's POV

- A week later -

I was in the gym with Wanda working on my fire powers. Thanks to her help I was really starting to see a lot of improvements. I still had a while to go with control but I felt like I was finally getting there.

Nat had been in a meeting with Steve and Tony all day. She hasn't replied to my earlier message but I hadn't really expected her to, knowing she would be busy. After lunch Kate, Yelena and myself went for a drive to get away from the compound for a while. We drove around with no destination in mind. Kate saw an ice-cream shop at one point and we stopped, walking to a park afterwards to eat the ice-cream. Being with these two at a park was like watch two kids run around and play. They were racing each other and seeing who could climb everything the fastest. It was quite gunning to watch at least.

It was getting late so we headed back. We all sat together like usual for dinner. Nat, Tony and Steve emerged from the meeting room to eat but would return after dinner.

At the table Nat lightly ran her fingers up and down my thigh. I could hardly concentrate on anything other then her caresses. I almost wished everyone knew about our relationship so we didn't have to hide it but I was happy to continue as we were for a little bit longer like Nat wanted. Her feathery touches were driving me wild. All I wanted to do was kiss here right there at the table and show everyone she was mine and I was hers. But I did respect Nat's wishes:

Later that night I was sitting in the lounge with Wanda and Peter watching a movie. I was very tired and had felt myself falling asleep multiple times. At one I was struggling to keep myself awake.

"Claire, go to bed" Wanda said waking me up.
"Sorry Wanda I tried to stay awake" I yawned. "You finish the movie, I have no idea what's happening anyway".

Wanda laughed. We said our good nights and I went upstairs while Wanda continued watching the movie.

It was almost midnight and I still hadn't seen or heard from Nat Which meant she was still in the meeting. After a quick shower and brushing my teeth I jumped in to Nat's bed and quickly fell asleep.

At some point during the night I felt Nat climb into the bed next to me pulling me in close to her. Her warmth was intoxicating, just her being close and pulling me into her made me smile sleepily.

"Hey" I mumbled tiredly.
"Hi darling, go back to sleep" Nat soothed.
"I missed you today" I added.
"I missed you too" she replied with a yawn.
"How was the meeting?" I asked
"It was long" she laughed. "It was okay we sorted everything out. I'm just glad I don't have to sit in that room again tomorrow".
"Can we do something together tomorrow?" I yawned again,
"Of course we can sweetheart. But for now, go back to sleep" she replied.
"I love you Nat".
"I love you too darling".

We both fell asleep in each others arms. I was sound asleep. Until I wasn't.

What the hell?

I felt the weight of someone on top of me followed by hands wrapping around my neck harshly.

For a second I couldn't tell if this was a dream or not. That's when I realised who it was on top of me.

"Nat. NAT!. It's me. It's claire" I pleaded while trying to pull her hands off me. "You're dreaming, it's not real!".
"NAT!".

I managed to get her off me and I scrambled out of the bed before rushing to the door to try get away from her so I could wake her up. Before I could even make it halfway across the room Nat grabbed the back of my shirt and slammed me face first into a wall. She spun me back around with so much force to face her and her hands were back on my neck again.
