Later that evening, Felix was nervously pacing in his room, trying to decide what to wear. He wanted to look nice for the date, but he didn’t want to overdo it. After much internal debate, he settled on something simple yet stylish--black slacks, a crisp white shirt, and a leather jacket. He looked at himself in the mirror, chewing on his lip. "Okay, Felix… it’s just Changbin. You’ve known him and have been friends with him for years. No need to be nervous."
Oh, um...
spoiler alert: He wasn’t convincing himself.
A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts, and before he could respond, Changbin let himself in. "You ready, Lixie?" he asked, his voice as smooth as ever.
Felix turned to face him and his breath hitched. Changbin looked effortlessly handsome, dressed in a tailored black suit that fit him perfectly. He smiled at Felix, eyes filled with warmth. "You look good."
Felix’s cheeks flushed. "Y-you too," he mumbled, looking down at his feet.
"Shall we?" Changbin offered his arm, and Felix, though flustered, took it.
They arrived at the restaurant shortly after, and Felix was immediately awed by its elegance. The dim lighting, the chandeliers casting a soft glow over the tables, and the soft hum of classical music made the place feel intimate and sophisticated.
A server guided them to their table by a large window, overlooking the city. The view was breathtaking, but Felix was too focused on the butterflies in his stomach to fully appreciate it.
Changbin, as usual, was completely at ease. "I hope you’re hungry," he said, scanning the menu. "This place has amazing food."
Felix picked up the menu, his hands trembling slightly. "I... I’m not sure what to order, also, this place looks fancy..." he admitted, feeling a little overwhelmed by the fancy dishes listed in French.
Changbin smiled warmly, noticing Felix’s nervousness. "Don’t worry, I’ll order for both of us and of course it's fancy, only the best for my mates." He signaled the waiter and confidently ordered a few dishes, starting with a glass of sparkling wine for each of them. Felix quietly sipped his drink, the bubbly liquid calming his nerves slightly even if he was still freaking out a bit.
"You like it?" Changbin asked, watching him with that same teasing smile.
Felix nodded, setting the glass down. "It’s... nice."
Changbin chuckled. "Good. Wait till you try the food."
The first course arrived soon after--a delicate plate of escargot with garlic butter. Felix stared at it, wide-eyed. "Um... I’ve never had snails before."
Changbin grinned. "Don’t worry, they’re actually really good." He scooped one up with his fork and held it out for Felix to try. "Here, trust me."
Felix hesitated but, under Changbin’s encouraging gaze, leaned forward and took a bite. The rich flavor surprised him, and he found himself nodding. "It’s... actually good."
"Told you," Changbin said, looking smug.
As the night went on, they shared more dishes--duck confit, truffle pasta, and a decadent chocolate soufflé for dessert. Felix found himself relaxing, enjoying the food and the company. Changbin was easy to talk to, his teasing less intense as the night progressed. They laughed together, reminisced about old memories, and even exchanged some new jokes.
"Do you remember that time in the company when Seungmin tried to make ramen and set off the smoke alarm?" Changbin said between bites of pasta, chuckling.
Felix snorted, covering his mouth with his hand. "Yeah, and Chan hyung tried to fix it by fanning it with a towel, but it only made things worse."
Changbin laughed, the sound deep and warm. "We were a mess back then."
Felix smiled softly, taking a sip of his wine. "We still kind of are."
"True," Changbin agreed, his gaze lingering on Felix a little longer than usual. "But some things have changed for the better."
Felix felt his heart skip a beat. He looked down at his plate, his face flushing again. "Yeah, I guess."
Changbin leaned forward, his voice soft but playful. "You know, Lix... you never did call me baby tonight."
Felix looked up, eyes wide, and Changbin’s teasing smile sent another wave of flustered panic through him. "I-I’m not calling you that," he muttered, trying to look anywhere but at Changbin.
Changbin chuckled, clearly enjoying Felix’s reaction. "You’ll crack eventually."
Felix pouted, stabbing his dessert with his fork. "In your dreams."
Changbin laughed again, his eyes full of affection. "Maybe."
...
The evening ended on a high note, with Changbin driving them back to the apartment. Felix sat quietly in the passenger seat, watching the city lights blur past. He felt... good. The nervousness from earlier had melted away, replaced by a warm feeling in his chest.
As they pulled up to the apartment building, Changbin parked the car and turned to Felix. "Did you have a good time?"
Felix nodded shyly, glancing over at him. "Yes, I did. Thank you."
Changbin smiled, reaching over to gently ruffle Felix’s hair. "Anytime, Lix. We’ll do it again soon." Changbin said and softly grabbed Felix's hand in his.
Felix’s heart fluttered at the gesture, but he just nodded, his face turning red once more. "Okay."
With that, they headed inside, hand in hand, being awaited by the others apparently since it's their free time, both of them feeling a little lighter, a little closer, and maybe--just maybe--something more.
