The sound of the front door clicking open stirred Felix from his comfortable spot on the couch. He turned to see Chan and Changbin step inside, their faces lighting up as they spotted him.
Chan called warmly, holding up a bag of takeout in one hand. "We brought brunch!"
"Hyung!" Felix jumped up, his previous drowsiness forgotten as he hurried over to greet them--along with Jisung. Changbin ruffled his hair fondly, chuckling at the younger's bright energy.
"We're taking you to your apartment," Changbin announced, handing him his coat. "You've got work, remember?"
"Oh, right!" Felix beamed, suddenly remembering his shift at the bubble tea shop. "Thanks for waking me up."
"More like saving you from being late," Chan teased, nudging him playfully as they ushered him out the door.
Felix kissed and hugged all his--surprisingly clingy--mates goodbye for now and exited the house.
The short drive to his apartment was filled with chatter, laughter, and Felix humming to the music playing in the car. The three shared easy banter, making Felix's heart feel light. He was excited for the day ahead--especially since happiness had become a constant in his life lately.
...
The bubble tea shop was warm and cozy, the scent of tapioca and fresh tea filling the air.
It was close to closing hours when Felix hummed along to a love song playing on the radio as he cleaned up around the counter. A mop in his hand, he twirled around in a slow, playful dance, a dreamy smile lighting up his face.
"Take my hand, and hold me tight," he sang softly, his voice blending perfectly with the melody. Lost in the moment, Felix didn't notice his coworkers staring at him from behind the counter.
"Uh, Felix?" one of them finally asked, an eyebrow raised. "Are you... okay? You're unusually cheerful today."
Felix blinked, pausing mid-dance, then broke into a shy laugh. "I'm fine! Just... happy."
The other worker tilted their head, suspicious. "You've been humming love songs all week. Are you--wait--are you dating someone?"
Felix froze for a second, then nodded slowly, his cheeks turning a deep shade of pink. His coworkers gasped dramatically, but before they could interrogate him further, the sound of a car honk interrupted the moment.
Felix's head snapped up, recognizing the familiar sound. "Oh! That's my ride!" he exclaimed, quickly setting the mop against the wall. He tore off his apron and hat, placing them on the counter as he bolted for the door.
Outside, Chan was leaning casually against his car, his arms crossed, a fond smile playing on his lips. The second Felix spotted him, he broke into a sprint, throwing himself into Chan's arms.
Chan chuckled, catching him with ease. "Hey, sunshine. Miss me already?"
Felix grinned, standing on his toes to plant a quick kiss on Chan's lips. "Always."
Chan opened the car door for him with a flourish. "After you, baby."
"Why, thank you, kind sir." Felix teased playfully.
Felix climbed in, as well as Chan. Chan looked started the car again and placed one hand on Felix's seat while looking behind, his heart fluttering at the gesture.
That should not be so hot, oh my godness!
Am I red?
Oh my god, I'm for sure as red as a tomato.
Somebody kill me already!
As the car drove off, Felix's coworkers, who had followed him to the window, erupted into squeaky laughs and whispered excitement, watching the couple drive off.
On the way home, Felix launched into an enthusiastic retelling of his day, talking about customers, his coworkers' teasing, and how much he loved the shop's holiday playlist. Chan listened with a soft smile, his heart full as he watched Felix's eyes light up with every word.
"You're amazing, you know that?" Chan said quietly when Felix paused to catch his breath.
Felix turned to him, tilting his head. "Why?"
"Because you bring so much light into everything," Chan replied, reaching over to brush his fingers against Felix's cheek, then sliding his hand to hold Felix's inner thigh. Felix blushed, ducking his head shyly but grinning nonetheless.
When they arrived at the house, Chan parked the car and was about to step out when Felix's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, his expression shifting from cheerful to confused as he answered.
"Hello? This is Felix--" His voice faltered. "What? No, that's... that's not possible..."
Chan's brows furrowed as Felix's phone slipped from his hands and clattered onto the floor. Tears welled in Felix's eyes, spilling silently down his freckled cheeks. His hands trembled, his expression blank despite the heartbreak Chan could see in his mate's gaze.
Chan quickly grabbed the phone, speaking to the other person on the line. After confirming the news, he hung up, his heart heavy as he turned back to Felix.
"Lix," Chan murmured gently, stepping out of the car. He opened Felix's door and knelt in front of him, his hands resting on Felix's knees. "Baby, come here."
Felix didn't respond, his body shaking as silent tears continued to fall. Without hesitation, Chan scooped him up in his arms, holding him close as he carried him into the house. He pressed soft kisses to Felix's temple, whispering soothing words as he walked.
Inside, Jisung and Jeongin came running to give them their welcome home kisses but stopped when they saw Felix shaking and crying, zoned out. The others looked up in concern, quickly rushing over as Chan laid Felix down on the couch. But Felix remained unresponsive, his mind lost in the devastating news.
They stayed by his side, their hands never leaving Felix's. "We're here, love," Chan whispered. "You're not alone." And Hyunjin completed, battling some tears of his own.
