The days leading up to Christmas had been a slow, arduous climb out of the shadow of Felix's grief. He was still fragile but at least he was discharged and his physical wonds were healing, even though the wound of loss still bled when he was alone with his thoughts. But his boyfriends were steadfast, surrounding him with love, patience, and constant reminders of his worth.
Seungmin, ever the quiet observer, had been no less vital in Felix's healing. While the others were louder in their affection, Seungmin provided the calm Felix often craved. He was the one who sat with Felix in silence when the noise of the world felt too much, the one who read quietly beside him or simply held his hand when words were unnecessary. His quiet presence was a balm that Felix didn't even realize he needed until it was there.
...
Christmas morning arrived, bringing with it a blanket of fresh snow and the scent of cinnamon and vanilla wafting through the house. Felix was the first to wake, drawn out of sleep by the faint jingling of bells and the soft murmur of voices near the tree.
He blinked blearily and smiled, his heart swelling as he saw Hyunjin and Jisung whispering conspiratorially while arranging presents beneath the tree. Minho was already up too, carrying a tray of hot chocolate, while Seungmin adjusted a garland on the mantle with his signature precision.
"Lixie, you're up!" Hyunjin's voice was soft but bright, his long hair tied back with a red ribbon. He rushed over, crouching beside Felix on the couch and taking his hand. "Merry Christmas, sunshine."
Felix smiled faintly, warmth blooming in his chest as Jisung appeared beside him, holding out a mug of hot chocolate topped with tiny marshmallows. "Morning, Felix," Jisung said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Guess what? You get first dibs on presents."
"Not if I wake Chan first," Minho teased, smirking as he set the tray down and took a seat beside Felix. The others weren't far behind, rubbing sleep from their eyes but beaming when they saw Felix sitting up.
Seungmin was last to join, sitting on the armrest of the couch and handing Felix a blanket he'd warmed by the fire. "You'll need this," he said simply, his eyes soft. "Merry Christmas, Felix."
They all gathered around the tree, the room filling with laughter as they passed around mugs of hot chocolate and plates of cookies. Felix felt warm and loved, the ache in his chest softened by the gentle joy surrounding him.
"Okay, okay, presents!" Chan clapped his hands, sitting cross-legged by the tree. He handed Felix a small, neatly wrapped box with a knowing smile. "Start us off, Lix."
Felix's hands trembled slightly as he unwrapped the box, revealing a bracelet made of delicate gold links adorned with tiny charms--each charm representing something meaningful about their relationship. A star for Chan, a paw print for Minho, a musical note for Jisung, a paintbrush for Hyunjin, a weight for Changbin, a fox for Jeongin, and a guitar for Seungmin.
Felix's eyes brimmed with tears as he slipped it on. "It's perfect," he whispered, his voice breaking. "Thank you."
"You're our sunshine," Minho said simply, his hand resting on Felix's knee. "You deserve everything."
The gift exchange continued, each present carefully chosen and deeply personal. Felix's face lit up as he watched his boyfriends open the gifts he'd spent so much time picking out.
Minho chuckled as he unwrapped the sleek chef's knife Felix had picked out and the few toys for Soonie, Doongie and Dori, holding them up with admiration. "You know me too well," he said, ruffling Felix's hair. "This is perfect."
Hyunjin gasped dramatically when he saw the set of professional-grade paintbrushes and the art book. "Felix! I've been dreaming of these! I love you so much," he gushed, pulling Felix into a tight hug.
Changbin's jaw dropped when he opened the custom dumbbell and the photos they took in the photobooth. "This is adorable," he said, grinning. "Now I can think of you even at the gym."
Jisung squealed with excitement at the limited-edition vinyl record and karaoke set, tackling Felix in a hug before he could even respond. Jeongin's eyes widened at the elegant makeup kit, his lips curving into a rare, shy smile as he quietly thanked Felix.
Seungmin, ever composed, carefully unwrapped the box Felix handed him. Inside was a sleek camera and a leather journal, its cover engraved with a simple but heartfelt message: For when you write the words I don't know how to say. Seungmin's breath hitched slightly as he ran his fingers over the inscription.
"Thank you," Seungmin said softly, his voice carrying an uncharacteristic warmth. He leaned over and pressed a quick, shy kiss to Felix's temple. "This is perfect."
And Chan... Chan couldn't stop grinning as he unfolded a copy of Felix's apartament key, a letter and the tank top Felix not so sneakly bought. "You're incredible, you know that?" Chan murmured, pulling Felix into his lap and kissing his temple as Felix sinked into his embrace and let out content purrs.
By the time they reached the last gift, the room was filled with laughter, love, and more than a few happy tears. Felix looked around at the people he loved most in the world, his heart so full it ached.
"Merry Christmas," he said softly, his voice steady despite the tears shining in his eyes. "I love you all so much."
They didn't respond with words. Instead, they all leaned in, wrapping Felix in a tight group hug. Minho kissed the top of his head, Hyunjin pressed a kiss to his cheek, some of them just touched afelix whereever they could reach, and Chan cradled the back of his head as he whispered, "We love you too, sunshine. More than anything."
Seungmin, from his spot in the hug, squeezed Felix's hand tightly. His voice was quiet but firm. "You'll never face anything alone, hyung. Not when you have us."
For the first time in weeks, Felix felt truly at peace. And as the snow continued to fall outside, he realized that while the pain of loss would never fully fade, he would always have this--a family who loved him, who would never let him go.
And, that was more than enough.
