Damian thought he had died, because he did. But that wasn't the end of his story.

Damian's life had been filled with joy and sorrow. Compared to most people he had experienced more than his fair share of both.

When he was in Highschool he met the love of his life, Amy. When he turned twenty and she turned eighteen they got married. The next ten years of their lives got better and better. They loved each other, had everything they needed, and had five beautiful children.

They laughed often, cried together, and always loved each other.

But on one fateful day everything changed.

*Ring* *Ring*

Damian was at work when he received a phone call from the police.

"Mister Kimo... we regret to inform you..."

He was told that his wife and children were all involved in a tragic car accident. They had rushed his wife to the hospital, but his children were killed instantly.

"Boss! I've got to go!"

He immediately left work and went to the hospital but before he could arrive his wife also passed away.

Damian's life ended that day.

He moved in with his parents again, he sold his house, and he quit his job.

One day his father sat down with him over a cup of coffee. They had a long conversation about suffering and the meaning of life.

Damina asked, "Is life worth living when there's so much suffering?"

His dad replied, "Yes. Suffering is hard. It can be absolutely devastating, but it's not the end of the story because comfort isn't the highest good."

"I don't think what happened to me is fair."

"No, it isn't fair. But a fair world isn't a free world. That's the price of freedom, we can have unjust things happen to us."

"Dad, how can I go on living when my whole life has been broken?"

"By believing that life still has meaning. For that, you need a meaning that's greater than your temporary existence."

"What is the meaning of life?"

"I am not going to tell you the reason yet. Although I think you already know what it is. You should spend some time and figure that out."

Damian decided to do just that. A few weeks later he was on an airplane traveling to Europe.

In Europe he was many beautiful things. He met wonderful people and horrible people. He saw life in motion.

Then he traveled to the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and many other places. He saw the beauty of the world. He saw the sadness of life. He also saw joy.

While in Japan he began to summarize everything he'd learned.

"I should go for a walk. It will help me organize my thoughts. The weather today is perfect."

Unfortunately, he was deep in thought and despite all his travels he didn't know about the homicidal truck-kun.

Damian stepped onto a street. He didn't realize that it would cost him his life.

Beep Beep!

Damian heard a noise to his left but before he could dodge the dreaded truck he was struck by it.

His broken body flew through the air and crashed on the ground.

He rolled for several meters before his body stopped. The crowd around him screamed and people rushed to help him.
