Damian hovered somewhere between sleep and consciousness for a long time. "I feel warm..." and from time to time he sensed light around him. The world was very peaceful and his twighlight of wakefulness moved slowly.

"Why can't I stay awake?..."

"Why can't I see anything?..."

After many cycles of dream and fleeting lucidity he finally realized that he was only a tiny baby who was still in his mother's womb.

Damian thought, "Wow... that's shocking." Then he slept again.

Damian wanted to train his body. He wanted to train his chakra, but he didn't have the capacity to. His little body was too weak, and he was too helpless to change anything. He couldn't defend himself. He couldn't speak for himself. He was alive, but he could do nothing without his mother. Every time his heart beat it was because of his mother. Without her lifegiving body he would perish.

"After I became a parent, I thought I appreciated my mom and dad's sacrifice enough. But being reborn as a helpless baby I realize how ungrateful I was to my mother. Please forgive this thankless son!"

And several months later he was born.

The room was dimly lit. There were several people in it but Damian only saw them as fuzzy blurs because his eyes were too weak to see more. Damian recognized the smell of antiseptics. He also heard his small voice. He was crying involuntarily.

"Congratulations Mr. Mujin, you have a beautiful baby boy..."

That must have been the doctor, thought Damian.

"...so precious..."

And that was a woman's voice, I think that was my mother.

"...name..."

"Dandin Hatamo..."

Damian realized, "That must be my new name..."

Damian slept a lot in his first weeks of life. It was hard for him to think. It was hard for him to move. He was, after all, a baby. Completely outside of his control he looked and acted much like any other baby.

Damian's first three months of life flew by as his brain and body developed but he learned that his mother was named Matsuri Hatamo and his father was Mujin Hatamo. They were members of the Hatamo Clan, and were both shinobi. Damian was their first child, and they loved him very much.

Like he assumed they hand named him Dandin Hatamo.

From the day that he found out his new name Damian discarded his old one. His name was now Dandin. Damian was a name he'd only use with his original family. He was a part of a new world. He was part of a new family.

"Look honey! He smiled! He likes it when I blow raspberries on his tummy!" The small family played together a lot and sang many songs.

When Dandin was five months old he realized that his parents didn't have any easy life. "Dad does a lot of missions. Now that mom's not doing any missions with him, he has to work twice as hard to provide for mom and I."

Dandin's dad, Mujin, could be gone for a week or a month. It all depended on what mission he did. Through several conversations Dandin learned that his dad and mom were both Chunin which meant that they were stronger than 65% of the ninjas in the world. Mujin was part of a Chunin team that regularly took on B Rank missions. That is, missions that assumed they would have to fight enemy ninja.

When he came home, he gave his undivided attention to his wife and child.

"What a good dad," thought Dandin. "I was born into a great family. But I'm worried. Dad is not that strong. He's only a Chunin and he's not even a team leader. Dad... please don't die."
