"Wow! Look at those stats!" Dandin compared his stats to the boy's and was shocked. His strength was lower, dexterity was only a little higher, and his endurance was way lower than the boy's.

Dandin eyed Azariah. He had black hair and black eyes. He was the tallest kid in their group with an average face. He wore commoner clothing that gave away his civilian rank. The boy's talents were built for a Taijutsu Master. If he had time to grow, a healthy portion of luck and trained hard he'd be able to reach Sokonin.

He knew nothing about the boy, but he instantly knew that he wanted to be his friend. Knowing such a powerhouse could only bring benefits.

The surprise examiner walked to Azariah and placed his hands on his back. This examiner had been a part of the academy for over a decade, and it was only the second time he'd seen a child without chakra qualify for the elite class. With some effort he probed the boy's body. When he'd analyzed the child's chakra network he was ready to awaken his chakra, but first he warned the boy.

"This might hurt, but I need you to focus and try to feel my chakra. It will move through your body and unlock your chakra points. If you can hold the chakra points open for five minutes you will become awakened and capable of refining and storing your own chakra."

"Are you ready?"

Azariah replied, "I was born ready!"

The examiner nodded his head and pumped chakra into Azariah's body. The boy clenched his teeth and sweat rolled down his face, but he didn't cry out or move away from the examiner.

This process continued for a minute before the examiner stopped pushing chakra into the child and stepped away. That's when Azariah did the hard work to maintain his chakra network by himself.

The whole group watched with anticipation. No one knew what the outcome would be, but they all understood that this trial would determine if Azariah would become a ninja this year or if he'd have to wait for another chance in the future. The kids anxiously watched Azariah's progress as minute after minute passed by.

"Good job. You can release your chakra now." The examiner gave Azariah the signal and the boy let out a sigh of relief as he released his chakra. The examiner continued, "You've passed. Your chakra is now awakened. In the future it won't be painful to train, and the school will give you a meditation technique to cultivate your chakra reserves."

He patted Azariah on the shoulder and walked off.

The kids around Azariah congratulated him until several new examiners arrived. These examiners had a few large devices with them. They told the children to form lines and one by one the children placed their arms in the machines.
