Dandin's team quickly got to work and set up a few traps at the entrance of the small cave. After that they erected a wall of stones at the entrance of the cave. They only left a small chamber in front of the rocks.
Dandin looked at their work and frowned, "If they find us, we'll be trapped like rats. Hopefully the false wall will convince them that the cave was tiny and only had traps to thin their numbers."
He started to look around the cave.
"Is there another way out of here?" The cave was the size of a small house and because of the darkness it was hard for Dandin to understand the cave's entire layout. Jiro lit a small candle, and it was their only source of light. The flickering flame made it very difficult to judge the space.
Dandin said, "we only have a few minutes before the challenge starts. Everyone, inspect the cave. I'm going to inscribe a seal to try to hide our location from their sensors. Let's find out everything we can about this place so we can come up with a good strategy if they make it past the false wall."
His team nodded and got to work.
Dandin reached inside of his bag and pulled out a few vials of liquid. The liquid was made from the blood of chakra beasts and other chakra dense materials. He was going to use it to create a seal. The liquid wasn't very pure, so the seal he made required a lot of liquid and a large area. He had bought the Fuinjutsu material from Komatsu and he always carried several vials with him.
Normally Dandin wouldn't use it for a competition, but he decided to practice his camp concealment seal since the competition was perfectly suited to it.
Dandin took five minutes to inscribe the seal. He made the confrontation hand sign and activated it. The cave instantly became a blind spot for sensors. Their smells disappeared and it became impossible to hear them from outside the cave.
His team gathered around him, and everyone gave their observations about the cave. There were several hiding places in it. Dandin quickly noted these locations since they would be good places to sneak attack from. But Sachiko found the most advantageous thing of all.
"That's when I realized there's a tunnel behind the rock," she said as she pointed at a large boulder. "I poked my head inside, but I couldn't see the end of the tunnel it was too dark."
"I think we should explore it," Taki said.
Jiro and Miko agreed with him, but Koji said, "that's a bad idea. What if someone comes into the cave while we're squirming through the tunnel. They'll nail us for sure. We'll have no way to fight back. If we're all in this cave when they come, we can put up a good fight and wipe out their team."
"Then we should send a few of us in," Miko said. For some reason she insisted on exploring the tunnel. "Our job is to hide. There's no better place to hide."
"That assumes the tunnel isn't an exit! We might crawl right into an ambush," countered Koji.
Dandin raised his hand, "there's no reason to argue. I'll send a clone. It can come back and tell us what it finds."
"That's no fun. Why do you always send your clones to do everything?" Taki asked with annoyance.
"Cause it's a good plan," retorted Dandin sarcastically, "since I can make them there's no reason to take unnecessary risks."
Meanwhile, on the South side of the training ground, Class 16-A was about to start. Yuki Nagare, the top ranked student of the class, had organized her teammates and assigned missions to everyone.
Her strategy was simple, she divided her class into three teams of ten. Each team had a few students who were trackers and sensors. They also divided the nine best fighters evenly between the teams. She drew a map of the training ground and assigned each team with a few sections to search, and a time limit to search them by. With her arrangement each team had enough strength to fight head on with any group they found, and they would all move close enough to each other to reinforce one another to eliminate the squads from Class 13-A. The only shortcoming of her strategy was that they would be slower and less efficient. Had she divided her team into sets of two, they could search the whole training ground in a few hours. Instead, the three teams would need the entire day to finish the hunt. She decided that those small teams would be too vulnerable. It was better to crush Class 13-A where and when they were found.
