Chapter 29: Test Results

 Dandin waited with anticipation. Kazuya let the silence fill the room. Pulled out the small display tablet again and dramatically scrolled through it. The suspense was killing Dandin.

"Please just tell me!" Dandin yelled in his mind.

Kazuya said, "now remember, these scores are percentage based. Lighting is your 100% affinity at 52 Shi. Everything else is measured off that."

"Yes... I understand..." sometimes Dandin wanted to slap this old man. How did he become so shameless!?

"Surprisingly, Earth Affinity is your second highest at 88%. You'll have a very strong defense to complement your strong offensive abilities. While Lightning and Earth don't mix well they do serve very different purposes."

"Huh... I wasn't planning on Earth Jutsu training. I wanted something like water which would boost my lightning abilities a lot," thought Dandin. "Let's see what everything else was."

Kazuya enjoyed teasing Dandin. However, he concluded he'd had enough fun so he directly told Dandin his other affinities. "Wind affinity is your third highest, it's 81%. Wind and Lightning normally conflict but you could work hard and learn how to combine them. I saw you use a sword earlier, if you can master these two elements and incorporate them into your Kenjutsu you would be very fierce. Wind is very fast and mobile, it's a great support element which could amplify your fast lightning jutsus. If you can combine Lightning and Wind with your Tiajutsu you'll be very lethal as your speed will be hard to match. Water and Fire are your weakest Affinities. They are at 46% and 43% respectively."

Kazuya paused so that Dandin could take in everything he said. Dandin evaluated these numbers and came up with a few ideas.

Kazuya continued, "Water and Fire can be learned up to Rank C Jutsu, but you shouldn't invest a lot of time into them beyond that since you'll struggle to learn more advanced jutsu."

"Kazuya-sama, how... normal are my results?"

"They are well above average. Our clan is a little special. Most of us can use all the elements like you can, but our percentages are normally between 70% and 30%. Your father's results are 100% Lightning, 50% Fire, 47% Water, 31% Earth, and 23% Wind. That's average."

"Wow."

"Your base is great Dandin. It's obvious you've trained hard. That's why your results are so high. This is why we focus on our children's foundation so much. And my recommendation is that you continue to focus on your base. Don't overstudy Ninjutsu or Fuinjutsu to the neglect of your development! You'll never get this time back."

"I understand. I'll continue to work hard."

"Good, you need to continue to physically train. You need to continue to increase your chakra capacity and control. As you do, you'll gain higher quality chakra. My recommendation is that you should add affinity training for every element. You might be able to increase your aptitude in those elements. Even if you only increase them by 5% each you'll be glad you did later."

"How do I train those other elements?"

"Wind is easy. Simply use wind nature to cut things. Everyone starts with a leaf. As wind nature improves you should work up to harder material or larger objects. Earth is also simple, you can either turn stones to sand or you can try to manipulate earth. Clays are a good material to start with, but I recommend you try many different types of earth like silts, sands, and stone. Water can be trained by using a leaf as well. Gather water onto the leaf to make it dewy. Once you are able to do that try to gather enough water to fill a cup of and so on. You can also use bowls of water to practice your control. Make the water move in different directions inside the bowl. Then levitate it and move it around you. Lastly, work your way up to control larger and larger bodies of water. Fire is also simple, take a candlewick and use your fire chakra to light it. Then, douse the wick and light it on fire again. The more wet the material you can ignite the stronger your affinity is. Paper, wicks, matches and other flammable materials are the easiest. Green leaves and branches are harder. Lastly, see if you can cause stones or metal to burn. Once you can manipulate each nature I'll teach you more advanced methods to train your affinities."
