Malias POV:
I looked at Kylie when the phone turned off.
She was hurt, but she kept smiling.
"It's okay, we'll talk at some point." Kylie said, though it sounded like she was convincing herself more than me.
"You're completely right. Do you want to...watch a movie or something?" I tried my best to change the subject.
Kylie clearly appreciated it, as she nodded and leaned farther back in the couch.
As soon as we turned on the movie and the starting previews started to play, there was a knock at the front door.
I turned to my girlfriend.
"Are you expecting someone?" I asked.
She shook her head, looking just as confused as me.
"No, and usually the delivery drivers come on Wednesdays." She said, her eyebrows remaining furrowed.
We both stood up and walked to the front door.
Kylie's house was weird, it didn't have one of those eye-hole things to see who was outside, so you just had to open the door and pray it was someone you know.
I was going to open the door when Kylie got in front of me.
"Just in case." She said.
She was protecting me, as per usual.
Kylie opened the door, and we were both pretty surprised with who was on the other side.
"Ruby?" Kylie asked, her voice soaked in confusion.
Ruby stood at the door, her hands each holding an iced matcha.
Kylie's favorite.
She handed one to each of us and stepped in when she realized Kylie was frozen.
After she took her hoodie off and hung it on the hook by the door, she faced us completely.
"I'm sorry for hanging up. I'm just a firm believer that all important conversations should be done in person."
Ruby gave me a quick glance and friendly smile before turning back to Kylie.
Ruby's eyes had a certain longing, a certain questionable look.
She began to speak again,
"And any conversation regarding our friendship and you in general, Kylie, is important to me."
My gaze shifted from her childhood best friend upwards to my girlfriend, who looked like she could cry.
"It's okay," Kylie said, giving a small smile. "Thank you for this, you really didn't have to."
Kylie held up the drink in her hand and Ruby just smiled.
"So, we need to talk." Ruby said. Kylie just nodded.
We all walked over to the living room and sat on the couch.
I sat far enough away from the two so that they could have their privacy, but I was sitting close enough to be able to hear what was being said.
I'm a nosy girl, I can't help it.
This time around, Kylie started off the conversation.
"I'm really sorry, Rubes. I should never have blamed you for anything. I took my anger and feelings out on you and it was completely unfair."
I've never heard Kylie sound so genuine.
I mean, I have, but you could tell that Kylie missed Ruby a lot.
