After stopping by the warehouse, making my rounds on different blocks serving, and picking up products I was exhausted. I parked outside my Mama's house to stash the money I had for her in her house.

When I walked in she was dressed up in tight brown slacks, a white blouse with her hair up in a curly clip up-do. Her face was lightly coated with makeup and red lipstick. I haven't seen her done up like this in a minute.

I tucked the thick envelope full of money in my underarms and smiled at her. "You look good," I told her as she grabbed the purse I got her for Christmas.

"Thank you, baby. We were about to go get lunch at Rusty Pelican. You should come, with us." She offered,

"Rusty Pelican? What's the occasion?" I asked,

"I just wanted to do something nice for your Mama," Goldie added, smoothing down the shaved sides of her head.

Them being in a relationship caused some getting used to for sure, I'm trying my best but I can't lie the shit was weird. Goldie fixed her low-hanging gold chain around her neck. Showcasing why her nickname is Goldie with gold jewelry from head to toe.

I shook my head, "I'm beat, Mama. But ya'll have fun-"

"Divine, come on." She insisted, her eyes saddened as she gave a begging look. "We never spend any time together."

I sighed, "Okay, Mama." I gave in, "Let me just put this up." I went into her bedroom and added the envelope to the other envelopes she never touched.

Once I was done, I led the ladies to my car and we headed to the restaurant.

The salty breeze painted our skin, as we ate our meals. I glanced at the two across from me and I tried to make all of this make sense. The affection they shared with each other was out in the open and unapologetic now that their secret was revealed.

"How long has this been going on?" I asked waving my fork at the two.

Goldie just finished telling Mama a joke so she finished laughing before she answered, "Well, it was going on since we knew each other over twenty years ago. But we were unsure of what to call it or how to navigate it, so we just stayed best friends" She explained,

"But she asked me to marry her years ago, and ever since we've been calling this bond between us an engagement, that only we knew about." Mama let out her hand and showed me the pear-shaped diamond ring and it sparkled with the help of the sun. "I can finally wear it."

I nodded, "How could ya'll keep this from us?" I asked eyeing the both of them, "You think I wouldn't have supported ya'll? You think P wouldn't have supported ya'll?"

Mama sighed as she stuck her fork in her chicken, "Honestly, Divine. No."

"Mama, I mean. Yes, it would've taken some getting used to but-"

"That's why I ain't said nothing. I don't want nobody feeling like they have to get used to what I have going on in my life." She snapped, "When your daddy up and left me, I told myself I was blocking my heart from love. And it came unexpectedly in the one person in this world I knew loved me unconditionally, my best friend.  For who I am, not what I could do for them. That's seldom, having somebody love you like that and I wanted to protect it." She explained,

I sighed understanding because that's exactly how I felt about Time.

"But, I'm sorry baby. I never wanted you to find out the way you did." Mama moved and sat next to me grabbing my hand.

"Me, either," Goldie added. "I wanted to be the one to tell you about it, but your mama wasn't ready."

I looked at her and nodded, "Well, you do seem happier Mama." I had to admit. She had a glow that stuck to her lately. Since we found out about Presley my Mama has been nothing but smiles.
