Francesca
I knocked on the Alvarez's office door in their presidential suite at the resort. They were only in town for a week, so I had to get this done as much as I wished I didn't have to.
"Come in." Paz's voice was stern, I almost jumped at the sound of it.
I pushed the door open to their large luxurious office. The top floor, modernly decorated, overlooks Miami's beautiful beach and city structures.
Emilio sat on the wooden desk with a cigar in his mouth, Paz standing next to him buffing her fingernails.
"Francesca, how are you, my love." Paz asked walking over to greet me with a hug.
"I'm good," I responded hugging Emilio as well.
I took a seat on the couch and wiped my sweaty palms on my slacks.
"How's business?" Emilio asked puffing his large cigar.
"Oh, business is great," I assured him.
He nodded,
"I came here to tell you about my divorce," I announced.
Paz's eyes lit up, "Oh? You finally decided to leave your husband?"
I nodded, "Yes. He's uh- making it kind of hard for me." I told her.
"I bet if P was here with us, he would be happy to hear this." Paz nudged Emilio, with a smirk.
"How did you guys find out about that anyway?" I asked, never understanding how they knew about our affair.
"Honey, this is our hotel. Nothing that goes on in here is a secret to us." Paz informed me. "Plus, they're cameras."
I cringed at the thought of them watching us on camera and changed the subject, "Well, there is a problem."
Emilio raised his eyebrow. He was a straightforward, no bull-shit type of man. I knew I couldn't dance around this, I had to come out with it.
"My husband and his lawyer found the offshore account. And they are doing their own investigation to find its source, to keep me away from my son. I just wanted to come to you, and let you guys know just in case-"
"Your husband and his pendejo lawyer aren't going to find anything." Emilio calmly cut me off.
I swallowed a lump in my throat, "I just thought I'd come to you, to let you know before it gets worse. They are pressuring me to let them know who I really work for because my salary at the hotel obviously doesn't match the money I have in my account in Cuba. Their eyebrows are raising and my son could potentially be taken from my custody if-"
"Francesca, you have nothing to worry about. You did good by coming to us, but I assure you they will find nothing and you will have your son back."
"How are you so sure?"
Emilio puffed his cigar once more while Paz got up and wiped her hands on her pantsuit.
"Because I'm going to kill them."
My mouth dropped and so did my heart as my eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "Wait, wait-"
" No one makes threats like that toward my operation and live. Plus, they know too much already, I can't take any risks."
I started to panic, Letting out a short nervous laugh "Emilio. That's ridiculous. You can't- I mean, he's my son's father." I begged standing up.
"Francesca, if they find out just one significant detail my whole operation can unravel. That account in Cuba connects to more than you know. I won't stand for anyone putting my life, my family's life, or all the people I have working for us lives at risk."
