Time
3 weeks later...
The sound of the bacon sizzling filled the kitchen as I finished up breakfast for Divine. My mind wandered off to school as the assignments I had due soon returned to my memory. "Shit." I cursed under my breath once I realized I hadn't even started.
I definitely didn't have enough time to finish that term paper by the due date which was tomorrow at midnight. I flipped the bacon over aggressively mad at myself for letting that important assignment slip my mind. I've been spending so much time with Divine at his place, that I let some of my obligations slip my mind.
The feeling of being behind on work made me feel so uneasy.
I haven't even checked my email to hear back about my internship regarding when I start, studying with my study group, or even picking up any shifts for tutoring. My mom was afraid I would let school slip once I moved here and I hated admitting she was right. Since her visit, we have not spoken a lot. I did reach out to apologize for how I talked to her but to also, explain how I felt about the importance of me finding my own independence.
She was hell-bent on me coming back to Georgia, and when I refused she indeed cut me off. Financially and emotionally.
Divine of course, offered to help me in any way I needed, but I cannot let his support keep me from ensuring the future I see for myself. My education and career as a future child psychologist mean everything to me, and as happy as I am in my progressing relationship with Divine I can't forget about my goals.
The knock at his door caught my attention as I wiped my hands on a nearby towel getting ready to answer it, "I got it, baby." I heard him say as he walked into the kitchen.
He gave me a quick kiss on the head before answering the door.
"What's up, nigga! You been M.I.A, ain't it?" I heard a loud deep voice boom from the living room.
I started to plate his food, as I watched the man walk into the apartment. Divine shirtless and half-awake greeted him with a dap.
I was a little embarrassed by my appearance as I wore Divine's t-shirt and small shorts. "I been busy, man working and shit, I got to catch you up on that too," Divine responded, grabbing his rolling tray from the table.
I grabbed the plate of waffles, bacon, and scrambled cheese eggs and handed it to him as he sat on the couch like I was a housewife.
"Thank you, bae." He responded before looking up at his friend.
His friend was already eyeing me before Divine could introduce us, He had on a hoodie with his shoulder-length locks under a baseball cap. His mouth was wide and had a thin line of mustache sitting above his top lip that covered his gold-grilled teeth with a goatee. His height was a couple of inches shorter divine, but had a thicker build.
He was attractive, but his demeanor wasn't the most inviting.
"This is Time." Divine simply said as if he should already know about me, "Time this my home-boy Tron."
I gave a quick smile and wave as I covered my left arm in nervousness, I felt naked and uncomfortable for some reason. And honestly, took his company as a sign for me to go back home.
"I have to go," I said in a low voice.
Divine frowned a little at my demeanor and sat his plate down,
"I'll be right back," He said before following me to his bedroom.
He closed the door behind him and held his hand on my waist, "What's wrong?"
