"How you feel, old man. You good?" Divine nudged his brother Prodigy as they stumbled out of club LIV along with their childhood friends and entourage.
"Aye, ya'll follow me!" One of the men yelled as he walked to his BMW. The two nodded.
Prodigy put on a lazy but charming grin. "Hell yeah. I feel good, bro. Blessed to see 22, hoping to see many more."
Divine was only eighteen at the time, but he had the same access that guys older than him had and then some, and it was all thanks to his big brother. Divine looked up at Prodigy, who was a few inches taller than him, and felt a sense of gratitude for having a big brother like him. Prodigy was rich, young, respected, and seemed to have everything his way. But to Divine, his big brother didn't seem to be the happiest, so he always made sure to ask him how he was feeling from time to time. There would be times when P would have his days where he would barely speak and just face blunts and drink the day away.
It wasn't all the time, but some days he seemed like he was carrying a very heavy load. Divine would notice a change in his demeanor and wonder what his brother could be so stressed about? Divine didn't know the half of what came with hustling the way Prodigy was. The things he had to do to make the money he makes were unspeakable. Unbeknownst to Divine, those days when Prodigy seemed down, he was feeling intense regret for the things he wouldn't dare talk to his brother about. All Divine knew was that he was working for a new and more powerful connect that was making Prodigy and his life so much better.
The trips, the club nights, weed, girls, cars, clothes, and jewelry, Divine was soaking it all in. But it was taking some kind of toll on P, and Divine just wanted his big brother to enjoy his life like Divine was enjoying his.
"Well, I just wanna make sure you get lit tonight bro, today is about you, old ass nigga." Divine joked as he climbed into the backseat of the SUV, and Prodigy got into the passenger side.
"Tony coming to the next spot?" Divine asked as he eyes the random girl he met at the club, sliding into the car trying her best to keep her short dress from rising over her fat ass. Following her was Omar and another one of P's entourage in the driver's seat.
"He said he was meeting us here, but ion' think so. You know that nigga been weird as fuck with me since I started working for this new connect. But, hopefully he put that shit to the side and pop out for my G-day." Prodigy took the blunt he was being passed by Omar and took a deep inhale.
Divine was too drunk and distracted to respond to that comment, he was too concerned with the girl from his club reaching inside of his pants. Divine lay back as he fixed his jewelry around his neck to enjoy whatever the girl was about to do to him. His thoughts went to his girlfriend Camry, who couldn't come with them due to being sick and started to feel bad about his actions, but was also too drunk and aroused to stop the girl.
Divine's memory becomes sporadic up to this point. Flashes of blood, sounds of screaming, tires screeching, the cold steel of his pistol in his blood-covered hands, the sound of his big brother choking on his own blood, and the sight of his eyes rolling to the back of his head as he rocked him back and forth in the middle of the dark Miami streets.
"P!!" Divine remembers screaming. Divine had never had to scream like this before in his whole life, he's never been so scared and so confused. He didn't know whether he should get back in the SUV and look for a car that seemed suspicious while blasting shots, or try to breathe life back into his brother using CPR he had no experience in doing, and wait for the ambulance. He didn't know what to do, but he tried everything.
"No, bro! You cant fucking go! You can't go!!" Divine remembers screaming as he followed the ambulance. They wouldn't let him in, which scared the shit out of him.
