Time

I gripped Divine's large hand as he sat by me in the OBGYN clinic's chair. We were at Peachtree Women's Clinic in Sandy Springs, Georgia to check on the status of our baby. Dr. Kierra James our OBGYN was a beautiful young black woman who had such a welcoming spirit. She was brown-skinned about 5'5 and had a big gleaming wide smile. Her hair was filled with tight curls that were on the tip of her shoulders, as she rocked her baby pink Figs scrubs. She had a big diamond ring on her finger indicating she was married.

Laying flat on the bed, I examined the adorable baby pink room that we were in. I focused on the cute baby pictures of our doctor's past patients to keep me calm. I was so nervous; I had no idea what to expect.

The fact that I was becoming a mother and housing a life inside of me felt too big of a responsibility. I didn't know if I was even capable this young. What kind of mother would I even be?

"My tech had an emergency so I will be scanning you today." She said sitting on the stool in front of the sonography machine.

She confirmed we were pregnant from the urine test they made me do and she let us know we were eight weeks, along with telling us our due date.

"When did you find out?" Kierra asked while prepping the gel and pushing buttons on the sonographer machine. She gave us a warm smile as she took out the tube feeling it to make sure it was at its desired temperature.

"About a week ago," I responded,

"You were kind of far along, mama." She stated as she placed the gel on my belly.

"I took morning-after pills so me missing my period didn't alarm me. I just assumed it was the side effects of the Plan B. So that's why it took me so long to take a test" I explained,

"But then I started to feel sick and my friend told me to take one, so I did and ... yeah."

She nodded, "Understandable. You probably took that last  levonorgestrel pill while you were ovulating so it couldn't stop ovulation from happening."

Divine and I gave our undivided attention to the screen as she moved the sensor around on my belly. She applied more pressure and then I heard a heartbeat. Loud and strong, it made me gleam with amusement. It was real, I had a baby living inside of me. This feeling was indescribable.

"That's your baby." She spoke with a smile, "Healthy heartbeat," I looked over at Divine who had an infatuated look on his face. He seemed so intrigued with a smile on creeping on his face which made me happy. "Okay, let's see..." She spoke while squinting her eyes.

I studied the screen again and frowned when I then saw two little figures on the screen, that were separated a little.

I know that's not what I think it is.

"Umm, why do I see two-"

"Yeah, what is that?" Divine asked pointing at the screen, interrupting me. Even more interested now.

Kierra giggled, "Your baby has a roommate." Kierra said moving the senor around some more.

"What?!" Divine and I exclaimed in unison. "What do you mean? I have two babies?"

My heart dropped as I watched both babies appear on the screen. I could faint right about now. Carrying two babies, delivering two babies, changing two diapers, feeding two mouths, and clothing two bodies. At the same time, this was all too much.

How am I going to do this?

"You got twins, mama. They are about 0.63 inches, kind of like the size of raspberries. If you look closely..." Kierra pointed at the screen "You could see their little toes and fingers starting to form buds." I squinted my eyes and couldn't make out what she was pointing out, but still shocked at the fact I was having two children.
