When Lan Wangji woke up the following morning his lips were parched, eyes gritty and his body ached as if he had run a marathon. He raised his head to realize that he was sleeping on the floor. His room was neat and tidy, as usual, with fresh laundered sheets and an incense burner exuding sandalwood fragrance through his room. He was naked but wrapped in a comforter which wasn't unusual for him. Often times, he slept in the buff after drinking because he tended to overheat. He tried to recall the previous night, but his mind came up blank. He was drinking with Xue Yang. He found out about Mo Xuanyu and Wen Chao and then the topic of Wei Wuxian came up.
Lan Wangji recalled how the night before the man had surprised him. Those plump lips with the mole underneath had stirred in him a desire that he thought was exclusive to his bunny. But Wei Wuxian had almost pushed down Mo Xuanyu from his heart with a single shove, before he ran to the washroom to vomit and then slip and fall and become a mess. When Lan Wangji went to change him, he almost crossed a line. The moment he touched Wei Wuxian's bare skin, the man let out a moan, undoing his self-discipline. He was left confused and disoriented and had shared the experience with Xue Yang who started teasing him saying that he now had two bunnies. That was the truth, his little bunny because Mo Xuanyu was young when they met, too young for his desires. Wei Wuxian is his cute bunny, the man being simply adorable in how he casually accepts all that life hands out to him. He recalls Xue Yang commending him, basically calling him a genius and that coming from Xue Yang was a tall order in himself.
Lan Wangji was surprised that none of his clothes were in the room. Was it Xue Yang's prank? He wondered. He found a jar of honey water on the bedside table along with two pills. He drank a couple of glasses to get rid of the sand in his throat. He left the pills as they were. He went to the bathroom and came out wrapped in a bathrobe, steam billowing from behind him.
He dressed as usual and walked to the kitchen to make some cereals for breakfast. He found Wei Wuxian sitting on the kitchen counter, thoughtfully drinking a cup of tea.
"I hope I wasn't much of a nuisance last night. Xue Yang forced me to drink, and I sort of blanked out," Lan Wangji admitted.
"Hmm," Wei Wuxian replied, lost in his own thoughts.
Lan Wangji was standing behind him and Wei Wuxian's calm profile was getting him aroused.
"Can you get me the data about the breach today?" Lan Wangji asked suddenly.
Wei Wuxian startled and looked back. "Data, oh yes, I'll call my friends at Jiangs,"Wei Wuxian said, shifting to look at Lan Wangji and wincing.
"What happened? Is your back hurting again? You should go see a doctor. The painkillers should have helped. What if something is broken?" Lan Wangji fussed.
Wei Wuxian smiled and shook his head. "Nothing is broken," he assured. Except perhaps me, he thought in his head. "Can you give me Xue Yang's number?" he asked Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji narrowed his eyes. "Why do you want his number?" he asked.
"Xue Yang is the CEO of Y-Tech. If Xiao Xingchen chooses to help me the Jiangs won't treat him kindly. I need to check if Xue Yang can get him a job in his company," Wei Wuxian asked.
"Is he any good?" Lan Wangji asked.
"Almost as good as me," Wei Wuxian countered. "I'm not going to misuse your friendship," he promised.
"It's not that. Xue Yang was saying that Y-Tech needs a few good engineers. I'm sure it won't be a problem accommodating your friend. But why will he help you? If he helps you in return of a job then that may be seen as bribing a witness," Lan Wangji pointed out, taking a seat beside Wei Wuxian.
