Six Weeks later

Wei Wuxian was cooking dinner. It was something that gave him peace and he had learned to enjoy it over the weeks. Mianmian had left early in the morning and that meant he and Lan Wangji were to spend the night together. They were trying to enjoy  their time together as much as possible till A'Yuan became part of their life which they were both expecting to be soon. He was already cured and had been moved to a state run orphanage. That move was a temporary one till the adoption gies through. A part of him was looking forward to it. According to the contract he only had two weeks left but he was confident in his relationship with his husband.

Lan Wangji wanted to tear off the contract but he had assured his husband that he felt secure to keep it intact as it also served as a prenup and it protected him from the reputation of a gold digger.
Lan Wangji had admitted to him several times that he did not love his bunny and was only bound to him by obligation. What obligation could shadow the feelings that they had for each other? Wei Wuxian heard the front door buzzing open and smiled.
“Welcome Ji ge. I made braised pork today,” he called out.

“Oh how lovely. I love braised pork,” a voice replied, one that turned Wei Wuxian‘s blood to ice. He turned around to see Mo Xuanyu standing at the doorway with his luggage. Lan Wangji was towing in another bag.

“I‘ll just place the bags in the guestroom,” Lan Wangji informed.

Mo Xuanyu nodded, stepping closer to Wei Wuxian. He bent his head upwards and whispered in his ears, “For now,” he said.

Wei Wuxian’s gravity shifted, his eyes burnt with unshed tears as what Mo Xuanyu said registered.
Two weeks, he really had two weeks left then why now. Couldn‘t Lan Wangji have waited two weeks to bring his lover home.

Think of the devil and his Ji ge appeared at the door, looking solemn and was that guilt. “Wei Wuxian,” he called out in a cold and distant voice, “Mo Xuanyu has filed for a divorce from his husband. He will be staying in the guest room till…” Lan Wangji turned towards Mo Xuanyu who brought out a handkerchief and dabbed a corner of his eyes.

“I understand. We’ll be getting divorced in two weeks as well. It‘s better if he moves in. I’ll rest assured that you‘re not alone after out contract is over,” Wei Wuxian stated coldly.

Lan Wangji looked up frustrated while Mo Xuanyu smirked. “Please don’t misunderstand,” Wangji begged.

“What‘s there to misunderstand. I got Jiang Software back. It is now Wei Software, thanks to you. Your sister-in-law is back in Suzhou. You have healed most of my past trauma. It’s time for us to part ways as it is. I was going to bring it up during dinner anyways. It‘s good that Mo Xuanyu is here. We all know that I was his substitute to begin with. Afterall the only reason you ever approached me was because I look like him,” Wei Wuxian argued.

Lan Wangji looked angry. "Did the last several weeks mean nothing to you?" He asked.

"I fulfill all the clauses of the contract. No one can even guess that we were only pretending to be together," We Wuxian replied.

The words stunned Lan Wangji. He nodded in agreement. Even he had been fooled. “Do you want to stay for the next two weeks or do you want to leave right away?” he asked.

“According to contract I’m entitled to stay with you for the next two weeks but I don‘t want to impose between you two. And till the divorce you can’t share the room and it would be awfully rude of me to stay in your room with your lover right across from you. I‘ll go back to the company. I‘ve always had a room there,“ he decided.

Lan Wangji nodded, respecting his decision. “Let‘s have dinner first,” he suggested.

Wei Wuxian nodded, bringing the food to the table. He could barely eat anything. However Mo Xuanyu was eating with a gusto as Lan Wangji served him while praising Wei Wuxian’s cooking. It was ironic really and Wei Wuxian didn‘t know whether to laugh or cry.

“Will you help me pack?” Wei Wuxian asked, suddenly getting up.

“What’s the hurry. We can pack tomorrow,” Lan Wangji offered, clutching on to straws as the man he had learned to love was determined to leave.

Wei Wuxian shook his head. ”I‘d rather be gone tonight. Will you help me?“ he asked again.

“Let me settle Xuanyu in his room first. We need to talk,” Lan Wangji offered. He would try one more time to convince Wei Wuxian if his feelings, his sincerity and the circumstances under which he had to bring Mo Xuanyu to their home.

Wei Wuxian nodded, placed his dishes with the untouched food in the sink and left. He was done being Lan Wangji’s maid. So he could wash his own dishes for once.

He went back and packed his stuff, most of which was bought by Lan Wangji. His clothes had earlier comprised of Jiang Cheng‘s hand me downs and had been reolaced by Lan Wangji’s designer clothes that he bought for him. He remembered the contract said that he wasn‘t bound to return them, so he packed them instead. He had paid for them with his own body afterall. Wei Wuxian felt disgusted, thinking of every kiss, bite, mark, that Lan Wangji had left on his body, every single night since they had come together.

By the time he had done packing Lan Wangji was still in Mo Xuanyu’s room. He picked up his bag and left. Even when the front door buzzed open, Lan Wangji remained in his lover‘s room. Wei Wuxian went down the elevator and walked out of the building. Then he sat down on the pavement and wept.

That is how Xue Yang found him. “Hey, what happened?” he asked his newest friend.

“Nothing, absolutely nothing.” Wei Wuxian said, wiping his tears. “Lan Wangji is in the apartment,” he informed.

“Where are you going?“ Xue Yang asked Wei Wuxian.

Wei Wuxian sucked in his lips and closed his eyes, shaking his head. ”Probably to Wei Software and then I don’t know. Mo Xuanyu is getting divorced. They are together right now. I can‘t… I am sorry. I am not like you,“ he apologized.

“I know what you mean. Did you know why Wen Qing won’t sit in the same room with me?” Xue Yang asked.

“She wanted a relationship but you couldn‘t?” Wei Wuxian guessed.

Xue Yang started laughing. Wei Wuxian realized it was a bitter laugh. “No, no, no. Wen Qing doesn’t do emotions. She is more of a manwhore than me. But I fell in love, with someone who doesn‘t even see me. And I had to prove my worth somehow, to myself, before I could prove to him. So I stopped doing whatever I was doing with her. I know what you are going through and I am going to knock some sense into that best friend of mine,” Xue Yang promised.

“No, you aren’t doing any such thing. Lan Wangji has waited enough for this,” Wei Wuxian opposed.

“But what about you?” Xue Yang asked.

“Xingchen and Yangyang are back at Wei. They can manage on their own. It‘s time I rested. I want to go back home,” Wei Wuxian replied.

“You want to go back to the Jiangs?” Xue Yang asked incredulously.

Wei Wuxian chuckled and shook his head. ”No, the place that I ran away from before coming to the Jiangs, where I was accepted for who I was before I let one person’s opinion of me affect my self worth. I want to head back home but I am a bit scared. It‘s been so long. Will you come with me?“ he asked.

“Me, are you sure? You don’t want Wen Ning or Huissang or … maybe… Xingchen?“ Xue Yang asked.

Wei Wuxian shook his head.  ”I don‘t want anyone to know where I am going. They know of it, know the effect it had on me. It is a place I have lived in fear and longing for for decades. The memory of it had been  just beyond my reach. Not anymore. I want to go there. I should go alone but I just want….“ wei Wuxian couldn’t finish but Xue Yang did.

“A support system. After what my best friend did to you, I‘ll definitely do all I can to support you. You’re like a brother to me. So where is this home of yours?” Xue Yang asked.

“Cloud Recess, Suzhou,” Wei Wuxian answered.
