"Hey A'Xian, congratulations. You deserved this victory," Luo Qingyang wished her brother in law over the thumping music.

Wei Wuxian who hasn't been getting any good sleep lately winced as another drum roll seared  his already throbbing head. "I have already proved a very poor host. So I really don't know what I deserve," he replied.

"Do you have a headache? Is it because of the lack of sleep?" Mianmian asked in concern.

"Ji ge talked to you?" He asked in confusion.

"Yes, you don't have to worry about anything. He told me everything," Mianmian assured him.

A'Xian frowned. "What do you mean by everything?" He gave an unsure look.

"He told me about the mistaken identity, the flash marriage and how he fell in love with you. His words may have been different as I don't think that guy realizes what he's experiencing but he's definitely head over heels for you," Mianmian assured.

Wei Wuxian was taken aback. If Dr. Luo realizes that they are a fake couple and with the case against the Jiangs reaching a positive conclusion what was his place in Lan Wangji's life. No matter what Mianmian said he was unwilling to believe that he was anything more than a substitute in Lan Wangji's life. Especially with his memories returning in bits and pieces he was unsure as to what place Lan Wangji held in his heart. Was the depth of his desires for his husband a reflection of the pent up angst from Lan Zhan's rejection of him? Even if it were not how would he figure it out? "Then do you know according to contract I was supposed to sleep in the guest room but since that became null and void on day 1, why don't you move back in with us?" He replied putting on a big, bright smile.

Dr. Luo, oblivious to the turmoil inside Wei Wuxian smiled back warmly and nodded. "I will. I have no intention of imposing on a colleague long term even if we are related through you. I'm just supporting Wen Qing since she broke up with Xue Yang and has been pretty upset since," she replied.

"Wen Qing and Xue Yang? They broke up already? That's not Qing Jie's style," Wei Wuxian explained.

"He broke up with her and that broke her heart," Mianmian explained.

"More like bruised her ego," Wei Wuxian analyzed. "Qing Jie doesn't get time for the emotional drama that comes with a relationship. What she and Xue Yang shared was completely physical," Wei Wuxian explained.

"Oh, I guess I don't know my colleagues that well. By the way, do you know I met Yangyang," Mianmian enthused.

"Yeah, I was just talking to her. She told me that you wanted to meet Zizhen. He is a ball of energy," Wei Wuxian recalled.

"I envy the fact that you know my  brother on a first name basis while I haven't even had the opportunity to meet him," Mianmian lamented.

"When she joined us, Zizhen wasn't in school yet. So he spent a lot of time at the company. It wasn't a company protocol but it was the only way she could continue. I recognized her aptitude early on and make allowances. Since I had the opportunity to do night shift almost daily as I lived out of my office, I took care of Zizhen on a daily basis till he started school," Wei Wuxian explained. "You could say I was his babysitter for almost an entire year. Even after that his school hours weren't half of Yangyang's work schedule. So he came to the company straight from kindergarten and we played lego till Yangyang was ready to go home," he recalled.

"You're going to be a very good father," Mianmian commended.

Wei Wuxian blushed, his eyes automatically seeking Lan Wangji who was talking to Nie Huissang's older brother. Wei Wuxian knew him well, more from his presence and reputation than from any interaction. "I don't know if I'll have the opportunity," he confessed.

"Have you spoken to Wangji about adoption or surrogacy?" Mianmian asked.

"Honestly I haven't given myself the luxury to think beyond the next three months," Wei Wuxian blurted.

"But Wangji told me that you've both decided to tear up the contract now that the case is over," Mianmian informs.

"I know but... I also don't want to take a newborn from it's mother. So even if we go for adoption I'll prefer a child old enough to live on solid food and yet young enough to accept me as his baba," Wei Wuxian deflected.

Mianmian narrowed her eyes till her gaze softened. Lan Wangji had his job cut out for him, she realized. But was Wangji prepared to address A'Xian's emotional needs when he himself was so confused.

"Why are you flirting with my husband for so long? Don't you have your own?" A voice startled them.

"Ji ge, you scared us,"Wei Wuxian admitted.

"No, seriously, what were you discussing?" Lan Wangji questioned.

"Mianmian Jie's meimei and didi," Wei Wuxian recalled.

"Did you know that A'Xian was the most prominent father figure for my didi growing up? He's going to be a great father," Mianmian hinted.

"Oh," Lan Wangji exclaimed. His lack of parental care meant that his concept of family never took into consideration the probability of a child they could nurture together. "Do you want a baby?" Lan Wangji asked, a bit confused.

Wei Wuxian read Lan Wangji's confusion as reluctance and shook his head. "I don't even remember my parents. How could I think of having children of my own?" He stated. The ache in his heart that had been plaguing him for weeks excarbated a bit more.

"But you'd be a great father," Mianmian emphasized.

Wei Wuxian gave a fake smile that didn't reach his eyes. "May be in another life," he admitted.

Lan Wangji appeared thoughtful. "I want one. Not a baby. A bit older. I want to be there for my child unlike how we had it growing up," he admitted.

Wei Wuxian's ears perked up at that, "Really?"  He asked.

Lan Wangji shook his head. "I won't force you and I don't want to even imagine a future without you. So may be it's more of a fantasy than a desire. But it would be nice," Lan Wangji confessed.

"So both of you are on the same page about fatherhood, right? A'Xian was just telling me that he would like to adopt a toddler. That was till he thought you wouldn't want a baby. Why don't you go ahead and start the procedure? It may be just what you need to solidify your relationship," Mianmian suggested.

"It's not a bad idea. We are both socially and financially stable enough to give a little one a home. What do you think, laopo?" Lan Wangji suggested.

Wei Wuxian looked down, his heart thudding as he nodded jerkily.

"Why don't you come to the hospital tomorrow. A toddler lost his parents in a automobile incident recently. His parents were homeless. No relative came to claim him. He's currently sufffering from a fever. You could apply for adoption. It may require a few months for the government to sanction it because search for his family is ongoing but chances of the search returning anything is next to none," Mianmian explained.

Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji with wide eyes who nodded. "I'll start the procedure as soon as the offices open on Monday," the latter assured.

Wei Wuxian felt a warmth creeping into his heart. "When can we visit?" He asked Mianmian.

"I'll talk to the hospital authority and let you know. The hospital would be glad that they won't have to dependent on government grants for little A'Yuan's treatment. No one likes walking through a beaureocratic maze," she admitted.

Wei Wuxian smiled a genuine smile. It was so different from the usual fake ones that Lan Wangji is used to seeing that the intensity of it blew him away. He promised himself to make his laopo smile more.

Luo Qingyang read the body language of the two and smiled to herself. Perhaps the child could provide Wei Wuxian the secirity he needed in this marriage.
