"You did what?!" Krishna screeches at Arjun, wide-eyed and practically vibrating with disbelief. "Urvashi proposed to you, and you told her she was like a mother to you? You motherzoned Urvashi?!"
Arjun glances around nervously, like a deer caught in front of a flaming chariot. "I... uh... thought it was the right thing to do? I mean, she seemed calm about it." Oh god, men I think.
Krishna bursts out laughing, shaking his head in disbelief. "Calm? Dude, she's a celestial nymph! That's like saying a volcano is just a hot spring! What did she do next? Knit you a sweater?"
"Well," Arjun begins awkwardly, "she kind of cursed me to be a eunuch. But my dad and I managed to negotiate it down to one year instead of forever."
Nakul, who had been standing quietly, suddenly doubles over and lets out a laugh that echoes through the hall. "Oh my god, what kind of moron are you? You could have had a celestial girlfriend! Instead, you get a year of being the punchline of every joke in the realm brother!"
"Excuse me, I'm standing here, his wife." I say
This sends everyone into a fit of laughter, and even Arjun can't help but join in. There's something absurdly funny about his predicament. "You guys are acting like it's the end of the world! I'll just, uh... I mean, who needs... um... you know..." he stammers, the blush creeping up his cheeks.
The laughter crescendos as they can't help but tease him further. "Next time, just say you're really into beetle fighting or something or something! That'll scare them away quicker than any curse!"
"Alas, my life." Arjun says dramatically. "You've already become such a girly drama queen. Who knows what you'll do next." Krishna say and we can't help laughing. I pout "Guys I think that's enough. Oh god Poor Arjun." I say and everyone doubles over in laughter. "Draupadi, is that an insult or you saving me from my brothers and Krishna. Cause I'm confused, wife." he says.
We giggle like girls and I think that I can live. Happily for a while. I can hold out until war.
